A friend of mine has just invested in a flat in La Marina

He plans to get Spanish citizenship
How easy How long
He is good at Languages (Latin degree) so I imagine the language will be OK
He has already Spent a month or so there for each of the past few years

All your friend needs to do is apply for a resident certificate they are easy and cheaper if he has already got a flat he must have got a N.I.E number the rest is easy I would also advise him to change his driving licence over.

Tell your friend he has made a good move the way of life i found over here is great for me, If he finds any problems when he is here let me know and i can help him out if he needs any. I can PM my number if needed .

You do know there is a difference between " Citizenship " and "Residencia " as a Citizen you have to renounce your UK passport ..he cant have dual nationality

I’m assuming your friend will be applying for residencia rather than citizenship. Don’t know the situation near La Marina but there’s a 6 month delay whilst NIE or residencia applications are processed in Lorca at the moment. Probably delays elsewhere too so he needs to get on the case asap. In terms of ease that depends on how much of a commitment he wishes to make in terms of living in Spain. This may be useful to your friend.

Spain: register your residency - GOV.UK

Your friend might do well to find an English speaking lawyer in the area who will assist and advise him. Probably cost a couple of hundred euros.

Thanks Pat and Ken

An email from my friend today
Hi Phil
All progressing just waiting for them to change their mother’s name on the deeds.
Thanks pretty much ties in with where Carmen our solicitor says. Have appointments early Jan to get NIE then can move forward.

So he seems to "know"
