The van will be SORNed over the winter as we will out of the county, far, far away.

MOT is due a couple of days after we get home from this trip.

I assume with the SORN the MOT can lapse. We wil get it done in March, which ie a better month for not getting in the way of van travel.

As long as you are insured and your motorhome stored in your normal off road premises as reported to your insurer (eg driveway or secure compound) with the security arrangements in place as also reported to your insurer (eg tracker, wheel clamp, alarm, security post, etc) then you should be covered under the fire and theft arrangements. As well as for any damage caused by a third party while your vehicle is parked up.

We often SORN our cars whilst away and have a camera viewing the vehicles which detects and motion and records video of the motion so any wrongdoing and we have evidence.

However we store our motorhome in a secure gold rated compound. If you keep it on a drive whilst away for an extended period it is worth checking the arrangements with your insurer however. Insurers do normally expect motorhomes to be parked for extended periods however the position when premises are unoccupied might cause concern.
