some Scottish updates

Big Westy

Howdy folks, just wanted to say how much fun I've been having
since I started full-timing at the begining of April....
Jeeze ... did I get my timing right ... or what ??
The West coast of Scotland was wall to wall sunshine for the 1st
3 weeks ... just sublime ... no midges , no tourists , no traffic.
Have to say ... one of the smartest moves I made was joining
the Caravan & Camping Club .....
OK OK .... I know this is the wildcamping newsgroup ....
but I'm pretty sure there's a bit somewhere in the bible that says,
" Man cannot live by wildcamping alone ".
espescially if you're a golden oldie like me ( over 55 ).
they give us a 30% discount in low & mid season.
I only pull into a campsite about once a week ...
for laundry & bit of intercourse (social).
In low season ... it was working out at less than 3 quid a night !!!
hard to beat.

a few West Coast observations ...

there are no signs banning overnight camping at the Rest & Be Thankfull.

there is a ban at the 1st lay-by on the Crinan Canal.
( I always stay at the 1st Forestry car park on the road to Tayvallich ).

12 miles north of Oban .... Loch Creran is just heaven ...
biggest problem is choosing which of the dozen lay-bys has the best views.

if you're going to Skye via Mallaig , avoid Arisaig ....
there are a ton of great spots just south,.. between Loch Ailort & Glenuig.
(good pub at Glenuig).

BIG roadworks on the A82 Loch Lomond road ...north of Tarbert.
they were actually closing the road between 10pm - 6am ...( late April , early May .. but who
knows how long it will go on ).
so if you're traveling to the North Country fair ....
I'd recommend you take the ferry from Gourock to Dunoon...
(buy your ferry tickets from Stevie's newsagent a few hundred metres/yards from the ferry
& get a 50% discout ... totally legit )
the BIG bonus is ... you can stop off at the Benmore Gardens (an extension of the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens)
'ey, ... trust me on this one. !!!

right now I'm just north of Manchester (yeuch !!)
picking up an old buddy at the airport tomorrow , then off to France for 3 weeks.
c'est la vie,

Happy Trails, Big Westy.

Sounds like u r having a great time and keeping safe. I do also think that sometimes u need campsite for a little creature comforts.

Nice move for trying full timing, obvious at times may not be easy but ay ho u r giving it ago. One day I would love to do it:D .

If u can keep in touch while in France especially with info on safe wilddddddd camping all the best Tim.
