I cut a piece of timber to length and cut a notch in one end when the sliding door is shut place timber in rubber block on the door and slide the notch over the end of the furniture.
I think that this could be adapted to fit different sliding door arrangements, once fitted the sliding door cannot be opened from outside.

I have the same idea on the patio door at home.

My patio door at home has three additional locks but because they can't be seen from outside someone tried to force it.

Now it has a piece of 2x2 timber jamming it shut and it can be seen from outside and I hope it acts as a visual deterrent.

But I wouldn't be able to get in and out myself if I did that!
