Solar where to buy

Sorry to start another topic on solar but I'm lost.

I want to order a panel in the next few days but can't be sure where the best place/price to order from.

I am going to order the recommended regulator from eBay (the one from germany) and get another leisure battery (current have a 115ah)

120w panel seems the best option for us.

So my question is, where should I buy and is there a particular type I need?

Thanks!

You could try phoning Glenn or Ian in my workshop and pick their brains, not saying we are the cheapest by any means as it appears to be a bit of a jungle but the only other comment I would make is that buying things on ebay unless the supplier is in the Uk and is very reputable, once your 60 days are up with PayPal you could have a problem if the items go faulty.

Just a thought, not knocking Ebay as we are very active on there, but we don't duck and dive if buyers are not happy.

OK I'll try and give them a call tomorrow. I had not thought to look on your site for panels, I will do so now.

Ebay

Ebay for the best prices, generally solar panels are reliable and a lot of the UK suppliers are simply acquired from China and the British rip off prices added on. I buy from China through ebay, the cheap stuff, not long life but big stuff like solar panels 100% OK!

HI Bob.
I just got mine from here and delivery was only 3 days from Germany.
I gather a few members on Wild have purchased from this guy. He does different sizes at the right price

Letter of the Law

Only that he charges you should you have to return the item, illegal in this country as seller has to pay all the costs. Which suggests he is not a good dealer as he is not up to date with the Law!

Yes do that and pick their brains, the website is well out of date on panel prices so don't take any notice!

I havent a clue as to what we have and wasn't trying to sell you any!

Ok will do, the prices on your site are at least double the eBay prices :). I'll call when I get to the office tomorrow lunchtime or so.

Thanks for the info guys.

I wouldn't pay anymore than about £170/180 inc P+P for a 120W panel.

At the NEC show they were trying to catch people for £400 + and another £150 for fitting. Basically a lot of traders prey on people's ignorance and take them for what they can get. They buy cheap panels from China and then stick on huge mark ups. But the price of solar panels has come down a lot over the last couple of years.

Bought two 90w panels from ebay (the german seller)

Now I don't know what regulator to get? Do I need the £70 one from the Taiwan seller?

A 10 amp regulator will be sufficient for 180 watts.

I run a 90 watt panel and a wind turbine off a 7.5 amp regulator. The regulator literature says it is good for 180 watts output, so 10 amp gives you a bit of spare capacity.

If you are thinking of getting any more panels, you will need to build in a bit of spare capacity and will need to go bigger.

I suspect two will be more than enough for our needs. We barely used anything on 12v during the summer months and for winter all our lights are LED anyway. We are adding a 12v TV for these dark evenings though which is partly why I decided to go for the two panels now.

Solar where to buy.

There is a 127w solar panel c/w a Sunworks charger control sb1c for sale on the Autotrail owners club website. The sellers phone number is 07727892489. Sunworks probably are the best controllers to use.

The asking price for the 127w panel and charge controller is £300. Seems a reasonable price as you are looking at about £900 fitted by a dealer.
