solar chargers

I'm presuming you are refering to the little pocket ones that open up & have a USB connection for charging phones? They are a complete waste of space, far too small to be any value whatsoever. My son bought me one for my birthday I didn't make any comment, but have tried to use it & even on the dash in bright sunlight it has little impact on a power hungry modern internet phone.
 
I have a small pocket sized solar power pack which can also be charged by 12v, 240v and USB. I keep it charged for emergency use. It will give me about 25-50% max on my smart phone with a full charge but it can be useful as a trickle charger on a sunny day to stop the phone from discharging.
 
I was given a PowerBee which is a battery with solar cell attached, it can also be charged via usb. Holds enough charge to fill my iphone but takes a while to recharge via sunlight. Handy as a standby but don't rely on the sun to recharge it.

That's the one... all day on the windowsill and not even 1 out of 4 leds(charge indicator) lit. Meanwhile my 80w solar panel is producing 85w...
