ive just bought a solar battery charger at a car boot from a chap who said he was selling it as hes bought a generator . it looks in good condition but how do i no it works. is there a test that i can do its a 2.4w with a 17.v and its made by nikkai

From what i have been told they are only good if your van is standing for long period's of time to keep your battery topped up;)
 
solar battery charging

You will need a solar panel of about 60 watts to provide reasonable charging over daylight hours with a protection for over charging. Ideally the largest solar panel you can afford, anything in low watts is only for topping up batteries and not worth the trouble.
 
thanks for the advice. i suppose it will do to keep spare battery charged. iam still reativly new to motor homes. and all mod cons you can get to use.
 
You have got to conserve you 12v power more so in the winter what with the dark nights.;)

If you are going to have an extra battery, why not make it perminant and put a slit charging system on board. There is a universal kit is sold on ebay for a few quid that has everything you need!
