Just in the middle of cooking and the spark igniter has stopped working. Just been to campsite shop only to find it just closing. Nice German next to us has leant us a lighter.

So is the igniter a fuse or is there a battery somewhere. Hob is Dometic with small black switch for igniter. Was working one minute then nothing ...

..

box of matches ? only one of my hobs responds to the igniter.... i use a match sometimes....

Will probably depend on make and model of your vehicle. Our Burstner is linked to a fuse which includes the light above the door, which came as a bit of a surprise.

Light above door is working .. cannot find anything else that’s not working .. fuses as always are tucked away where it’s impossible to get at so looks like I will be mostly laying on the floor tomorrow with a torch and multimeter. That is unless it’s marked somewhere like the instruction book which I just happen to have with me ..

Will get one of those long lighters in the morning ..

..

Update .. Well it’s not the fuse. 3A fuse supplies the igniter and fuse is ok. Manual has diagram of fuses ..

I like those little gas flame lighters

Good thing about those gas flame lighters is that they still light the hob after they run out of fuel, as long as they keep sparking.

Got 4 for a £1 5yrs ago. All empty now but still sparking away.

Korky.

Box of cook's matches or firelighting matches are a cheap and reliable option.

sounds like the spark generator has failed, which happens . they can be rather expensive. look for a plastic box with [usually] clear plastic coated wires coming out, if you're really lucky it may be battery operated !

Could be the ingniter wiring, it's prone to melting and shorting on the metal of the appliance.

We also have a Dometic hob with the small black igniter. The van is less than 3 years old and we are on our third! To replace them, you have to remove the hob and access from the back. No idea of cost of the part as the ddealer replaced the part and sent us one.

my switch went a few months ago due to water ingress.
got a new one off eBay for a quid, even came with a plastic cover.

about £50

Bought a gas lighter today just like being back on the boat. Works fine. Can see the terminals for the switch so will try shorting them together. If it then works it’s the switch which should be easy to change. I can see the ignition unit with the drawers out so should not be too much of a problem to change. It’s going to have to wait though we are away in Spain at the moment.

Thanks for all the replies folks ..

Sorted the switch has given up the will to live.

Found one on EBay for £5.95 Each Here

BUT

After measuring the hole at 19.4mm x 13mm I found these which also fit but considerably cheaper so ordered two at £1.99 Each .. Here

..

It looks as though wiping the hob whilst cleaning can result in water in the switch. Things seem to pack up at the most inconvenient times so ordering two will give me a spare should I need it and it was still cheaper. The first one in not an Original Equipment version from Dometic its just one someone has found fitted and is making a few pounds out of

You can remove the switch carefully using a flat bladed screwdriver to lift the switch out of the panel. There is enough cable to be able to replace it.

Happened to me. Turned out to be crud had dropped into the spark gap. Lifted the burner off (two pieces) and cleaned the gap. These days I always have a box of matches in the van and this seems to stop the problem recurring!

Ive always kept the flame long type igniter on a hook as a spare. As it happens its my full time lighter now as my "proper" one went 6 months ago and ive not replaced.
