Whichever van you go for, just make sure you fully winterise it before heading to the Alps. We have a factory-converted panel van and when using it in -8 temps suffered with frozen mains and waste water and condensation freezing against the inside of the metal roof. This was OK 'til we eventually parked in the sun and we got a cold shower through every ceiling joint and light fitting!!

Maybe see you in Les Arcs in Feb '10 then :D:D

i have met people in france who were living on £100 to £150 each week in there motorhome [ is it possible ????? ]

Depends what you're including there - a lift pass costs way more than that on its own. In terms of parking and food alone your budget is realistic. All-in though your boarding trip could stand you at twice or three times that.

hello crofland1 and thanks for the reply ? i think every 1 else has fell a sleep ? anyway regarding the lift passes am not the best snowboarder so am planing to play rnd were ever i can on the slopes till the last couple ov weeks ov my trip then i will get a lift pass ??? am lookn forward to the cold weather so somthn i buy i will have heating on permanly i will lag all the pipe and get it right ?? was in scotland last year -10 and my D reg hymer never froze once because i left the blow heating on and a tip for you all ?? iv ye leave the sink cupboard doors open when you are in your van it stops the pipes freezing because the heat gets in cause when there shut its like a fridge in there ? that was a tip from an old motorhomer and it worked ? will defo catch up in les arcs if i can ?? so ye think its possible then that budget thanks keith :D

You need a coachbuilt me thinks to go down below -10 - some of the resorts in France could easily hit -20 in the death of night.

Electric hookups would make it do-able. I have been looking at the sites (as opposed to Aires) that give you your own bog block/boot room. You park up next to it. The idea being that you use the van for sleeping/cooking, and don't bother using your own water facilities. More expensive than wilding it of course.

We survived for 4 nights in Glen Affric down to -10 (in an 07 trigano tribute panel van). Temp never got above -5! Only issue with van was that the water feed to the toilet goes under the van - and it hence froze! Diesel heater kept up a 30 degree differential with the outside with no problems. We ran out of juice on the 3rd night though and had to drive some to charge up!

We've also used the van up at Glenshee for skiing in similar conditions.
