Hi anyone any experience or thoughts about snow socks. Saw a large A class MH at new year on a snow and ice bound site driving off with no problems..all other mh had some problems and even 4x4.

Thinking of investing in them as got caught out in the snow last year took nearly 3hrs to get out of where i was parked in the trossachs.

Hi Champstar,

I know nothing about snow socks or chains.

What I do know is that Euro Car Parts have online only offers on them at the moment and I believe the offer ends today.

They also have offers of 20% off (probably) everything until 20th January. They email me with offers and it included the discount code of JAN20. Use that if you need to.

Good luck.

Hi Maingate nice read u again perhaps we should pull 'em up?

Socks work fine on snow, not so sure about ice. They wear out if driven too far on clear roads (and wear quickly!)
And they don't comply with the "law" needing snowchains.
So for UK - fine - but Europe where chains are needed - then take chains.

Where we are 95% motorhomes have chains, 5% other bits. And that applies to all cars too. All "serious" vehicles (bus, lorry, digger etc) have chains. So......

My Swedish friends did have a big laugh about socks (like activecampers said) :D.
An emergency solution is to have some 3 foot nylon ropes you can knot around the tyres to get out. (they wear as fast as socks, easier to put in and cheaper )
But off you go anyway :p

If they work....

You have answered your own question....

Never snows here but my long-dead uncle used to have to drive up a long steep hill on dirt roads. On the rare times it rained, he used to have two short lengths of chain and shackles. One around each drive tyre made the difference between getting home or not.

Even using rope as an emergency fix, do have to check that it can't foul brake discs or brake lines or sensor wiring.
