"Smart or Supid"

Hi all, Yesterday during some gusty winds the skylight on my autosleeper
suddenly snaped and blew off. I examined the break and discovered that the skylight, handles, and hinges were all one piece and the 4 plastic studs which hold the handles to the skylight had sheared off leaving the handles screwed to the side of the opening. I thought this could be an expence which I could avoid. So I got out my trusty Black & Decker, screwed 4 holes through the skylight & handles inserted 4 large nuts & bolts & washers screwed it all together, sealed it with silicon & bingo! job done, at no expence
BUT, how about your honest opinion is this being "Smart or Stupid"

I think this means that you cannot now open it???

Yes it can still open, the skylight is held on to the handles with the bolts instead of plastic studs

that sounds realy sensible well it must be as i did more or less with my skylight :D

Roof light

If you are happy with it and it does the job saves money ,what is wrong with that.:)

Update

Three and a half years on and the skylight is still 100% secure.
opens and closes like a well oiled machine,
its stronger than the original, and would take a hurricane to budge it
morale of the story,-- don't buy expensive replacements
if you can "improvise" :D

Smart Cars....

Thought this was going to be about Smart Cars....:(

flying skylights

I was driving home along a country road last year and a motorhome coming the other way had its skylight open - it snapped off and hit my windscreen at such a force that the windscreen shattered - by the time it happened the van had long gone!! msybe they should all be screwed down!!
