A friend who goes on another forum sent me this yesterday. It doesnt affect us but may be of interest to others...

That's a bu88er as ours won't fit anything bigger than a dumpy propane ☹️
Flogas (perhaps others) still do 'dumpy' smaller cylinders.

In the meantime, thanks to @GMJ for bringing this to my attention. I've just ordered a 6kg Calorlite as the one currently in use is on its last dreg. Hopefully, the two in my gas locker will then last till mid to late Spring.

The world will end tomorrow. But tomorrow never comes. WHY announce something today to say you are announcing it tomorrow. Could be wrong but this smells fishy

Not necessarily fishy.

My guess is they are probably rationalising the size range because there are major problems with the supply chains right from place of manufacture, through shipping, through to arrival at t’other end.

More than happy to be proved wrong on my amateur speculation 😉 👍

Anecdotal experience tells me that the 3.9kg propane and 4.5kg butane have become less used over the last 40 years. At least, when I first started caravanning, these small bottles were the norm and 6kg/7kg was as big as any units could use. Fast forward to today and I suspect that few if any commercial caravans or motorhomes can't use the larger form factor, and many can now also use the next size up.
However, today (the day after the expected press release) Calor's latest service statement is that they've imposed a hold on all new cylinder issues -- so you can't get a Calor cylinder of any size unless you have a suitable one to exchange. The Calor shop has also stopped taking orders for 3.9kg/6kg cylinders online. Consider also, for some time they've had a policy that you can exchange one size to another in the same grouping (e.g. a 3.9kg propane for a 6kg). Added to that, Calor stated some time ago (2017?) that 6kg Calorlite cylinders would not be replaced at the end of their life and so the supply of those cylinders can only dwindle.
Put all that together and it seems to me that the post the OP quoted might be a misunderstanding?...

As a customer of That Leisure Shop there email to me and the rest of their customers seems clear enough.

However, although you didn't quote the entire message in the other thread, I suspect that both are from the same source (Motorhome Matt)? And that's the person I suspect has misunderstood...

I can’t take any credit. It was on caravan club chat. I think somebody is being cynical. Cylinder Range Simplification indeed. What a load of tosh.

So, Neil discovered a smell of gas in the camper today. 😱

Turns out it was a leaky/broken regulator.

He's ordered a new one, but meantime I'm wondering what the current situation is on 6kg propane cylinders?
(the one the regulator was attached to is now empty 😟 )

I'm a bit confused (nowt new there!!!) but are 6kg propane (non-refillable) cylinders easily available these days??

We do have a spare 6kg propane cylinder which is half full, plus an extra 6kg propane which is empty, plus an empty 3.9kg propane which came with the van).

The half-full 6kg will suffice for now (I'm supposed to be going up the coast in the camper for a party this weekend, just need enough to fuel the fridge and the hob for the kettle).

Maybe now is the the perfect time to actually nip down the road and visit Chainsaw Charlie! (y):)

Marie I have had no problems replacing my 6KG cylinder.
Even many of the campsites had refills for sale.
The big problem is getting cylinders.

Oh good! That's the answer I was hoping for... :)

Got two x 6kg cylinders, so hopefully will do a swap for a full one on my way north this Friday.

What's the approximate current price?
