we got a present of a slow cooker. if we use it in the camper with an inverter while on the move will the alternator keep the leisure battery charged so we will have power when we park up ?
thank you O'PEOPLE of wisdom.

Yes. the alternator can supply power while on the move to both charge the battery and power appliances.

Our slow cooker uses about 100/140watts at 240 volt which is easily powered by even a small inverter. Look at the bottom of the container for the rating for yours.

I run my 1500 watt inverter all the time I am driving.

I don't know about a slow cooker on inverter whilst travelling, but I have run my mains t.v with built in DVD player so my Grandson could watch a film whilst travelling on the inverter, so would guess it will be OK.:):):)

AS per the others the answer is YES easily, however wether you can drive without loosing the contents of the slow coocker is another question (and FAR harder to answer, especially if it's soup!).

Put it in the sink and use an elastic band to hold the lid down. No problems.

:):) I posted a thread on this last year. We did exactly what you are asking for one month whilst travelling round Portugal, not the flatest country in the world and it worked perfectly. We just put the cooker in the sink, no elastic bands, no wedging and it never spilled once. It was great to smell the meal cooking and when you pull up grub's ready, happy travelling:):)

Here here!! we travel with ours in the bowl, in the sink..no problem. Only difference is ours is a 12v slow cooker, so don't need an inverter with it.

The slow cooker is made by Road Pro..and it works just fine. I have bought an extension lead so that I can run it off the cig lighter, rather than the 12v circuit of the van itself. Although it appeared to me to work o.k. off the van's 12v system, I was strongly advised against it...particularly with the electronic control box on our Burstner being so tempremental.
But it is true...the smell of dinner cooking while you are travelling is a joy to the senses.:D

Hi Jackie,
A dump question ! What is a 'slow cooker' on 12V ?? How does it work ?
Is it the opposite of a fast cooker :eek:
(a slow thinker)

Hi Leo,
Nah!! you are never dumb!! But can't believe you asking this question....remember I'm the blonde, even if artificial!!
My latest 'slow cooker'..takes at least 5 hours to cook the meal, runs only on 12v power source, so will run off the cigar lighter. As opposed to my original 'slow-cooker', that ran only off a 240v power supply....am I making sense??

Happy New year to you and yours..

Jackie;)

thank you all for your replies as always you have been most helpful.
keep it up for 2010.
thanks again
tony.
