Hello All
We are currently in Switzerland in our VW T6 and aiming for Slovenia and the Julian Alps in a couple of weeks. Any other recommendations there?
We really like the wilds and like to wild camp whenever we can. Can you do this (and safely) in Slovenia?
Thanks in advance
Richard

Last time we were there is ten years ago but wilding wasnt officially allowed in the Triglav national park. There are one or two Aires or at least there was. I preferred lake Bohinj to lake Bled.

Agree re bohinj. Cycled to end of the lake and then walked up to the Slap (waterfall!). We spent 5 weeks in SLOVEnia and LOVED it. As it was our first year full time, we were law abiding and mostly used sites. I did come across a book of agrorourism park ups (France Passion), but it was fledgling. The people are wonderful, warm and welcoming. So will let you park at restaurants or vineyards.
If you've a celebration or just like fine dining, go to Mak in Maribor. David is a rocker chef / showman, and it shows in his food. Expensive multi course set menu, but imaginative and super tasty. We went back after Lockdown 1 on return from Turkey. He let us park up there.
We blog our travels so you can see what we did, if of interest. Clunegapyears.com.
Enjoy.

While you’re there try and do a trip down the caves at Postojna (not sure I’ve spelled that correctly but it’s something like that!). Not a cheap day out but an absolutely fantastic experience. We also stopped overnight in their car park.
Agree with the other posters here - Bled is a bit touristy and overrated. Idrija is a nice town and a centre for lacemaking - of great interest to my wife!

All above is what we have experienced.
There is an aire at the train station in town of Baptista Bohinje.
There is a bikers cafe on main road through forest from Bohinje towards Italy, they may have parking set up now.
We used the opposite side of road to stop.

Spent time there in 2018 and agree with all above don’t miss Velika Planina stayed overnight in the restaurant carpark at the bottom of the lift good meal too

Škocjan cave also worth the visit for sheer scale and drama of the underground spaces. More laid back than the ultra touristy Postojna experience where you enter Indiana Jones style in a little train. It doesn’t have the same sculptured wealth of stalagmites and stalactites as Postojna owing to the passage of air through the underground canyon, but impressive nonetheless in a different way..and less expensive.
If you still have troglodyte tendencies after those two the mercury mine in Idrija may be of interest.
The peaceful hilly wine growing country in the east of the country is very pleasant if you have the time, as is the quiet border country along the border with Croatia. Not as dramatic as the mountains in the west, but we enjoyed it.
We spent a good few weeks in Slovenia on more than one trip and it remains one of our favourites.

Other places we visited were Stanjel famed for the Ferrari Gardens created by the architect Max Fabiano whe we stayed in the village carpark. Piran is wonderful and you can catch a passenger ferry for a day trip to Venice. We stayed at the campsite in Fiesa and walked along a footpath around the beach to Piran for the evening. Great restaurants and amazing view from the bell tower. We also preferred the Skocjanske caves with its huge canyon. Predjama Castle is stunning. If you like nature a walk in the Rakov Skocjan Krajinski National Park is worth a stop off. Llubljana of course we stayed in a campsite out of town and cycled in. It felt like a mini Paris. Again a stroll through the Volcji Potok Arboretum is a leisurely stop, on the way East to Austria is the historic town of Kamnik
