I would appreciate your advice and help !!!
We live in a valley in Cornwall. No mobile signals unless we climb up the hill.

Our TV is playing up. On a fine day no problems. When it rains, at best the picture breaks up to no picture and no sound. A TV installer/professional, rewired in a new ariel from LNB to Digi box, put in a brand new 80cm dish and new LNB. We still have the same problem. Checked with all our neighbours, they have no problems.
Our Sky digi box is 17 years old. When our contract with Sky ended we got the Sky viewing card to only watch free channels.
Question is: Could it be the Sky digi box being old and out of date that causes the loss of picture & sound on a rainy day? If so, where can I get a later model with a viewing card.

HELP !!! Thanks in advance.

sky box software update

Hi, I had the same problem with mine, what I did to cure the problem with mine was I did a forced software update, this seemed to cure the problem for me. :) To do a forced update on a day when you have a reasonable signal switch the sky box off at the mains wait 2 mins then hold down the back up button on the sky box (not the remote) and switch on the power supply with the button still depressed the tv will show a notice updating in process then after about 10 mins the sky box will shut to standby, just start it up normally and the sky box should have the latest software to make work properly. Hope this helps. :)

Hi Roadroamer, I have done exactly as you have said. The updating process is running at the moment (10 minutes) is shown on the screen. So far so good. Will come back to you shortly. Thanks so very much.

A good improvement on the standard channels, unfortunately the other sky channels are still playing up. Do I need an updated box?

Hi,

If some channels are Ok and some are breaking up, it could be the dish has moved slightly. Or needs moving slightly.

Not all Channels are on the same Transponder (Beam).

If you could borrow a new box and plug it in that would be a good way to find out.

Why not ask around for a digi box. A lot of people have uprated to SkyHD and will still have their standard boxes.

I got an almost brand new one for £15, which I use in the van. We have Sky at home and I take the viewing card away with us (when I remember:mad:).

If you think your dish might have moved slightly (they are flying through the air up here at the moment:D) then check out the signal strength and quality:D

It is Services (on the remote), system setup (No. 4), signal strength (No. 6).

Thanks Guys. Have done all I could. Looks like I got to dip my hand in my pocket. That's life. Thanks anyway.
