The last few days my breakfast has been a couple of poached eggs on a muffin and the next day a couple of poached eggs on spinach which we grow in the garden, topped with home made cheese and herbs, we use fresh herbs from our herb garden all the time

Fantastic !!! ....ticks so many boxes, There is something amazingly satisfying using things straight from garden to plate freshness never a problem , in fact that fresh it has a flavour of its own.

You might like this rather indulgent version cooked by no less than Michel Roux which by all accounts was one of Mitterands favourites.

Fit for a president.

we have a community herb garden. well not so much a garden as they are grown in large containers all free for the taking.

has anyone done a poached egg in the microwave

i tried it with some microwave contraption with no success........however, thought of filling a cup with water and cracking an egg into it......not sure how long to leave in m.wave for....i dont want the egg to explode tnen have to clean the mess up.

also have an abundance of blackberries at the bottom of the garden wish i still had the apple tree.

I used to do poached egg in the microwave all the time but the danger just got to much for me, I just do scrambled now in a cup, 2 eggs for 30 seconds and stir, another 20 or 30 and stir again, more if needed.

Simple and Tasty.. ?
That's what Jenny thought when she first set eyes on me..

Simple hard boiled egg, halved, scoop the yolk out, make it into a paste with Dijon mustard and a pinch of curry powder.. Replace in the hollow.
Top a salad with this... A taste bomb.

Butter and fat ARE not Guilty pleasures I eat them all the time along with bacon sausage and egg etc. as normal breakfast on my low carb, higher fat diet now and lost a stone and a half in 5 weeks, with a much improved well feeling. Latest research tell us to eat fats etc for health and drop sugar right out of it along with cutting back bread.

Here's a handy little tip for the health conscious.

If you mix a little coconut oil in with your kale, you'll find that it slides off the plate really easily into the rubbish bin.

Also, whenever you see a 'Healthy food' section in the supermarket, what's that telling you about the rest of the food being sold there?

Don't want to hijack this thread, but....

Very true.
Jenny has been on insulin for over 15 years and was advised to avoid animal fats, dairy, and to boost hypos with a dose of quick acting carbs.

This year , because we were off the road, we enrolled on a 6 week course... " Xpert Diabetes Control and Management, through our GP practice .

A revolution : Full fat dairy, chuck out all the processed food Keep carbs down to under 16 x 15gm portions per day Up from 2 eggs/week to 10.., to substitute for meat... Reduce fruits , but increase veg and nuts. The book gives info on how to count carbs and on portion control.. It's become our Bible .

We've both lost weight and her insulin demand is reduced by 20%

We're on a mainly Mediterranean diet and are allowed the odd glass of red wine per day .. and olive oil instead of that evil Flora.

Apologies for busting in .

This is very true, Being a retired Medical professional I have lots of access to Pubmet and other places of research, I have extensively gone through all the LATEST research to find out what I need to help ME get a retirement, Low fat was a waffled research done by a man called Ansell Keys, and he grew rich and famous on the back of the GUIDELINES that were accepted by the Western governments . Total BoXXocks all of it but the written in stone rules on nutrition, were promulgated and because the Truth. Three really BIG LIES are used by the Governments department. All part of the reduction in world population agenda.. Kill off the old and the stupid.
1. FAT IS BAD oils are GOOD?????????
2. Carbs (sugar) is GOOD
3. Sunlight is bad for you. (Vitamin d3 deficiency) making a fortune in sunscreen that does not protect against dangerous uvA. only stops good uvB
Go online and see what I mean. All of these things have made the US and UK population Obese and diabetic , at the same time making the multinationals super rich, bankrupting the NHS at the same time. The Medical profession is at last beginning to see the truth, but loath to go against the GUIDELINES for fear of being ostracised, by the establishment and vested interests, that are so widespread.

Fascinating stuff, Paul and Jennys experience interesting too

I saw a dietician recently at the hospital she advised pretty much the same but didn't mention meat, I have Chronic Pancreitis as well as CKD stage 3 an Osteoporosis thrown in . I am taking Creon enzyme replacement , If I understood properly ( good chance I didn't ) The fats release energy slower which helps the organs. Ironically they don't want me losing weight nor gaining

Channa, do not take this personally as your condition is being treated and there may be side affects. The vitamins might be contraindicated, but might not. the nutritional advice they gave is good.

The reason that it is working for so many people is that the Carbs will trigger insulin straight away and if you cannot actual use them at that moment they will be taken to the liver muscles and visceral fat (Tummy fat).. This results in about 20% being deposited as fat, you then feel hungry quite quickly afterwards. Protein i does trigger insulin but not by much so is better. Fat however is slowly absorbed and DOES NOT trigger the insulin so is available , it also releases renin, the sated hormone so you do not feel hungry, no snack and extended meals with no pangs of hunger. The insulin is the REAL danger to everybody as the effects on the whole body is dangerous and after a time will lead to Pre-diabetes and eventually full blown diabetes needing drugs, metformin and then to insulin when the pancreas gives up the struggle of trying to force fructose into cells that do not accept them , because they have become resistant to it.
Take out ALL sugars, cut the bread, eat green vegetables. DO NOT eat any form of LOW FAT products as they are packed with sugar, mostly corn-syrup made from maize. That is used in nearly every manufactures food product to replace the taste of the fats. Do not use any manufactured cooking oils that are not pressed like virgin olive oil is. Basically do not eat any manufactured food and look on the label for sugar which has 56 names for the same thing to confuse you. Fruits are seasonal but now we get them all year, they should be eaten as fruit and not as smoothies because the fibre is destroyed which slows the transit of the fructose into the system.
Look on You-tube for the Fat Emperor site and there is loads about diabetes and metabolic syndrome. It is an Irish heart health site and very dependable,, watch out for the nutter posting their own views on there. Have a look might save you life, and whilst there look for Vitamin D3 along with vitamin K2 both are associated with metabolic syndrome amonst 35 other serious deficiency, chronic diseases which have run out of control in the past 40 years, ever since the guidelines were introduced for healthy nutrition .. Bigger profits for the corporations that are 'feeding us' to death. Have a look a a film from the 70's and see how many fat and obese people on the street,????????? then look out the window and see now 60% now.
