Move the wifi box to a better location ? or run a cat5 network cable up to the 2nd floor ? or buy a wifi extender ?

I find the Plug In Mains Boosters work well, especially with Wired connections.

We used the plugin ones and they were really effective.

Powerline adapters, can get them for cable or wireless. Because the thick stone walls here used to kill signal in early days I used to have a power line adaptor downstairs near incoming router than a CAT5 cable from router to powerline adaptor. Upstairs at the back I had another power line adaptor with CAT5 cable into a wireless access point. With newer wireless I get enough coverage inside so dont use them now. You would need a cat5 power line downstairs then a wireless power line adaptor upstairs. You can get them on passthrough as well so you dont lose a socket.

Loads of people make them but this sort of thing is what I mean TL-WPA8630P KIT | AV1300 Gigabit Passthrough Powerline ac Wi-Fi Kit | TP-Link United Kingdom
