Just signed. Innocent until proven guilty? Not in Britain nowadays it would appear:mad:

Good call,

Signed up. whats next a communist state. We will all be carrying around little red books next.:)

Just signed up. This proves the point that they just want you to pay up and shut up. And this means these fines are just another form of indirect taxation.

It seems mad to me that you spend a lot of time and money getting your licence, and as soon as you have it and start using it they try to criminalise you off the roads!!

Remember, in this country you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent and then you are still guilty.

The next step will be DNA from babies when they're born, guilty from birth. Big brother is tame compared to the british government!!

This sounded wrong to me so I have read the detail, its only changing in that you will have to pay for YOUR OWN legal representation if you choose to use it to defend yourself instead of getting the tax payer to foot your £4000 bill for defending a £50 parking fine.

OK I'm playing devils advocate here but there is another way to look at this...But I guess if your not guilty you should not have to pay...

Yet another nail in the coffin, and furthermore a fine example of how our 'fair' legal system is seriously flawed.

Has things already stand , a motorist whom is alleged to have committed an offence is obliged to complete section 172 of the road traffic act failure to comply is 6 points and a fine.

Interestingly what ever happened to the right to silence ? ...furthermore is not S172 a threat ??....Dont fill it in you will be prosecuted ?. Is there not some kind of bully tactics at stake here ?

It seems Europe doesnt think so ..so again the motorist is steamrollered into being an unwitting source of revenue.

And then people look at me amazed when I deliberately missed the ferry back to the UK!!

I am proud of being English, but certainly not proud of what our country has and is becoming

Out of interest, you can expend as much energy as you want voicing ( rightly) your collective concerns.

But a penny to a pound of dog poop no one will take any notice afterall too far away from an election.

Since when have politicians been interested in serving the electorate ?

Just a thought

I think this relates to your own legal representation should you choose to use it.

Some background;

A few solicitors have been making a pile of cash by charging large fees specialising in "getting motorists off" using various technicalities.

For example, even if the motorist was actually speeding, if they can show that the camera had not been calibrated for 31 days and the statutory period was 30 days then the case is dismissed and they earn thousands at the taxpayers expense for a few hours work.

I'm signing this as the proud owner of a couple of fixed penalties, but be aware there are two sides to this story and the system (ie the taxes you/we pay) have been milked by the greedy lawyers for fair while.

I read something a few months ago about this topic - some solicitors were offering a no win no fee service, and then getting stuck into the legal costs when they knew they could win, but refusing to defend the 50:50 cases. Maybe the move is more about curbing the income of the members of the "Association of Motor Offence Lawyers" who have instigated the petition.

Personally I have always had a fatalistic view on copping motoring fines - I dont get caught for about 99% of the offences I commit, so when I do, I just cough up.

Signed up, but don't expect it to make any difference.
We can but try!

I signed. The CPS are suposed to 'filtre' out the 'ify' prosecutions arn't they?
What next?...A 10 quid charge for sending you a letter of 'no action to be taken'? If you are innocent, do you not 'go free'? How about compensation for wrongful prosecution? Don't answer these questions, you might get nicked for conspiring to pevert the course of justice! You cant breathe...at least not in the town hall!......Misuse of Council oxygen??
Paol.

Having given a bit of thought to this interesting thread, Would one not be able to recover the losses from your legal costs element of your motor insurance ?

Of course if insurers have to start coughing up for successfully defended legal claims I appreciate in the long term we can expect increased premiums
