please, please, please don't ask for medical advice off this lot ! promise you'll go to your local pharmacist and seek his/her advice (it's free) then you can make a little kit up and have all the correct doses etc, this lot will have you kissing toads and dancing naked at midnight or even worse.

ps..... take plenty of wetwipes.

Everyone understands vomiting, even young ones. It's a reflex. If it needs to come up it will!

In a well equipped motorhome, it's no different to a house. You've got fresh water, hot water, beds, a sink and your medicine cabinet. Plus you've got your wheels. Just a drive away to medical help if needed.

So don't worry, just pretend you're at home, stock up your cabinet with whatever you usually have, and everything will be fine :)

:welcome: to the site by the way!

On a positive note, being out in the open and exposed to all kinds of bugs, muck etc will enhance your children's immune system no end.

You very rarely see farm kids with stomach bugs, allergies, asthma etc They build up an incredible immunity as will your kids, a few sniffles occasionally but as has been said, they can get that at home anyway.

Spare sheets, clothes etc, but clothes especially cause if they're playing outdoors then they'll get mucky.

Let them feel, touch everything and experience as much as possible, it's true, they're like sponges.

Ive not suffered stomach bugs in the van but do remember a trip in 05 when we were in a tent at a music festival and my 10yr old twins spent the entire night throwing up, I spent the entire night running back and to emptying sick into a portaloo and trying to wash the bowls with alcohol hand gel

thanks guys.. and no worries, i wasnt after medical advice! after 5 kids i pretty much get that one!! lol!!!
no, more interested in logistics... if it starts to turn into cases of the 'chocolate chuckles' what would best way to empty toilet cassette? (apart from 'often' lol!!! does the chemicals cover the smell enough? and what to do if more then one of you get it?? (we have 3 bathrooms at home, and i still panic there wont be enough !!!)
just wondered if anyone has had to deal with it before and has any ideas with hindsight!!!
ewww.. sorry, is getting close to tea time too!!!!

Before you go away visit the local chemist and ask for a bottle of Kaolin. Used to be Kaolin and morphine but they've left the morphine bit out now. Good for adults, settles a bug riddled tum straight away.

For kids nothing for 24hrs but coke. The coke washes the bug through and kills it. And a kid getting through gallons of coke is a happy kid lol that works for adults too.

Remember the Coke needs to be flat not fizzy, unless you want it straight back up again! This was a favourite remedy when I was at Uni, for those who couldn't afford to go and buy chemist's remedies.

I share the gaff with the hound, place your bets...will I catch summat off him?,or he summat off me..

My punt is bet evens.

I have two first aid kits, guaranteed I can't find one of them, last year I got food poisoning in France, not funny at all never felt so icky in my life.

Thankfully the pharmacy sorted me out and I have hung on to the leftovers..for another day...I hope not..

All part of the fun allegedly

with 6 of us living in the van fulltime we always had a couple of buckets for weeing at night, this was emptied into a bush in the morning and if anything else ended up in the buckets then nature could take care of that too.we always drank the local water and didn't get many probs

Personally I have never really got over four out of the six of us getting spicy sausage poisoning the night before we were due to catch the early morning ferry home .... and that was nine years ago ....... It is the only time we have ever forked out for a cabin :p

It's amazing how many receptacles you can find in a van with a bit of imagination :p

I really DON'T do sick and my husband, bless him, accepts that I'm still a bit paranoid even now and accepts that I flatly refuse to let us eat anything past sell by date or use up date while we are away now
