We have a Shurflo Trail King fresh water pump in the van & it's started spluttering from the taps.

The wife gets particularly annoyed when cleaning her teeth, she gets soaked.

It's probably started from when I drained the system during a cold spell in Feb.

I have been advised it could be an air-lock, but how does one get rid of an air-lock??

Any one out there had the same problem?

I had that problem with mine last year, don't think there is any way other than running the pump till the air is out. I took mine apart and cleaned the valves which made it better but had to buy new pump in the end.
Hope you get it sorted soon, just a thought can you hear the pump pumping now and again when you are not using any taps etc?
You can buy replacement valve but not cheap.

What happens is you get air in a pipe and the pump compresses it. As its air it can be compressed where as water cannot. So when you open the tap you get the air being uncompressed in the system. Apart from running the pump with all the taps open there is not much you can do. Put a hose into the tank and leave it all running. Then switch the taps off one by on and then open them up again. You are trying to get the air to move but its probably in a high bit of a pipe where it goes over a wheel arch etc.

I always put some water in the tank and prime the system before we leave home (even if we do not need to take it with us). I do this so that the hot water system is full (ie, the boiler) and by the time we get to our destination, any air has been displaced to the high point which minimises spluttering and I am not using battery power to prime it on arrival.

This is not absolutely necessary every time, it is just a habit I have got into.

When mine was doing that it was because one of the unions on the pump was a bit loose, so it was sucking just a tiny bit of air in. Worth checking.

I've had this too with the pump pulling in air through a loose joint on the pickup side. You won't see water leaking as it's not under pressure before the pump, but it can pull in air causing the problem.

Hi Mike, According to the Hymer Handbook, you should fill the water tank and then operate the taps in the hot position first, in order to ensure the boiler is full, and leave it running until the air is expelled. Then do the same with the cold..... hope this helps!
By the way, interesting use of the word rissold, .... glad you had a good time!

Regards Rog.

Interestingly enough, my Hymer handbook says "undo the pump collar and agitate the pump up and down while running". Worked for me this morning when the tank ran dry!
