after i got back from portugal last year i decided that while locked down i would pursue raising my weight limit so ordered new16” wheels changed them all over a couple of months back & although i knew a couple had worn treads they were still within date 28/17 in the box so barely 4 years old , my last journey was 1500 mls back home motorway all the way so at speed came out in a cold sweat when i later examined this wheel tread is fine but on the inside around the rim it is breaking away can only think it was me exceeding the load rating but they are camping continentals , i have now gone with heavy duty 120 load rated tyres not worried about a little tyre noise

Not sure about overloaded, from the pic the damage looks limited to one area which would suggest a rather deep pothole with the weight contributing ........ either way a bit scary for an in date tyre 😱

About 5 weeks ago I had a brand new branded mid range tyre fitted to the rear wheel of my truck , I set off from Milnrow to St Helens via the M62 , I had done about 15 miles when a van passed me waving his arms and using his horn , I looked in the mirror to see my new tyre had shredded all over the motorway , luckily I was just passing the services so I pulled in and stopped . when I inspected the tyre I found the whole of the tread had come off the tyre and it had still somehow remained inflated , when the fitter arrived he told me this is now very common with new truck tyres . Very scary knowing big trucks are flying round with shitty tyres fitted

See the tread roll of many trucks on our roads, me thinking they are retreads of el cheepo Russian tyres.

Those rims also require shotblasting and epoxy on inside,we used to lots of taxi rims because of leaks or grinding the seal of the tyre.

DITTO !
I know what you mean.
But I didn't stick a penknife in mine ;).
Replaced mine with 121 Load index tyres. But Avons, which later found Avon do not recommended for use on MoHo or Caravans

Had the same thing happen on a motorway! The gunk they supply instead of a spare can’t do much about this

I agree my Hymer came with a gunk filler in 17 years motorhoming had 3 blow outs & one puncture where I had run over a wheel stud none of them would have been sealed with the gunk that's now part of the kit so have bought a spare wheel though it bites heavily into the allowance

I believe some breakdown vans will not deal with a vehicle without a spare !.
We would have been "Donald Ducked" last summer without a spare.

As I have reported before..I then remained camped whilst waiting for 2 new tyre
No 1 for the puncture
No 2 to replace the spare which was very very old
I would not have travelled far or fast with the "very old spare" in place and thought it better to replace it anyway
Thus 2 new tyres last summer (2019) and a good spare.
2 new tyres again in April 2020
I prevously had 4 new tyres in 2014 and we average 6,000 + miles a year.

I wonder if the tyres have been under inflated and with little uneven road surfaces the metal rim has just worn the rubber at the rim edge with faster deterioriation especially with the heat in portugal and the run back - dont know - but you have had a very lucky escape

We had 2 kumho's fail in france both developed blisters in the side wall's.
8 months old and not overloaded.

Problem is many of these tyres are rebuilt third world types from russia china india branded with fancy names.

as above i did give my tyres a check over before leaving portugal i noticed one of my front tyres was worn though still legal & decided to swap it for my spare but when i got that out it was equally worn so with the help of Reg i rotated a rear one the damaged tyre was the other rear and the damage is on the inner wall so a bog standard visual check didn’t find this
