Oh I have just had a shock

Ok I don't get my state pension till 6 November 2010 (that's not the shock)BUT (this is the shock)
I won't get my bus pass till then
I thought I would get it in August when I reach 60 oh bloody hell

Polly, you have your own bus! with a bed, cooker and most important, a loo. And what,s more it will go on any route you choose. You need to find out when your winter fuel allowance is due, nudge nudge wink wink.
Regards & happy wilding, Nig.

How strange - in Scotland bus pass starts on DOB. A pass can be applied for two weeks prior.

I cannot understand your acceptance of the fact that you reach 60 in August but do not receive state pension until November.
My spouse received her first pension payment 1 week after her 60th birthday and also her Bus pass commenced on her 60th as well.
(In Scotland)

The retirement age for women is being increased to 65 as from 2020 and is being phased in gradually for those born between 6th April1950 and 1955, hence Polly not getting her pension till November. I'll be 60 next year.. god I can't believe I've just admitted that:eek: .. but won't get my pension till I'm 61 and a half :(. I think free bus passes were given at 60 because that was the retirement age for women and were given to men at 60 too to avoid sex discrimination. I presume now that the retirement age is being increased you won't get a bus pass till you get your pension.. Tell me if I'm wrong.. I hope I am:)

Good link Bevdrew - no arguments now. The information Polly has been given is correct.

Polly, I am 56 this year but have to wait until i am 66 to collect my pension, If you go on that site that Bevdrew has put on it will give you all the details.(still trying to find some Cheerleading outfits.) Ha! Ha!. Ali

hi ali . was it a j who suggested we have cheer leaders at the anglers rest games night

Hiya Poll,
Your entitlement to a bus Pass, and free prescriptions and a cheap dinner at our local chippy....... are all available the day you turn 60. So take your passport, a utility bill and a passport sizs mug shot to your local council offices, 2 weeks prior to your birthday. Your bus pass will then be with you by your birthday.......... thats assuming Camerant and Odbourne arn't holding the purse strings, then it will be 80 years of age, before you get diddly s**t..... unless of course your a merchant banker or have property over the value of a million then you will get lots of perks to ease the massive burden of being super rich.:mad:

You are absolutely right. Fortunately, Jenny and I are old enough to have got our bus passes already (although that doesn't mean the next government won't take them away!) but, assuming that bus passes continue to exist, anyone born after 1955 will have to wait until they are 65. And on that happy note I will go and open another bottle of the vin rouge..............
