Slightly confused by the shell island bit...
But yup Blackrock sands has caught many out over the years....
As do many places when the tide comes in on the sand.
Wasn't too bad after the bank holiday weekend (spent that paddling down at Tywyn headland and Borth golf club, carpark)I do like Shell island (out of the school hols) not been since before the first lockdown must book sometime there.
Must admit I like the Borth carpark too used to have a season ticket do they still do them or is it all pay as you stay.Wasn't too bad after the bank holiday weekend (spent that paddling down at Tywyn headland and Borth golf club, carpark)
BUT been missing Shell as hadn't visited since before lockdown...
And felt deprived as been visiting since 1966....
Loved ever second and it hasn't changed a bit to be honest...
Still as lovely and peaceful as ever..
We didn't bother booking and just turned up (wanted to see how busy first ;-))
It’s not only the tide you have to watch as the tide softens the sand before the tide gets anywhere near you and that’s when your van sinks and that’s what catches people out.Takes me back to the early marriage years when i had use of a works van.
Went to Southport not far from us and drove onto the beach at the official entrance by Pontin`s, the wife wanted a paddle in the sea and it was bloody miles out as it does there so i said we`ll drive out.
I was really careful and parked near some other cars whilst the wife had her paddle, i shouted a few times that we need to go as all the others had left with the approaching tide.
She came back and the tide was still a good 15- 20 yards off us so i started the engine and as soon as the clutch bit down went one of the front wheel right to the driveshaft .............................................. oh deary me ( or words to that effect ) i said
To cut a long story short after running a bloody marathon back for help ( pre-mobile era ) i got back with the Coastguard Landrover who just managed to pull us out because by now the tide was up to the doors
Pay as you stay....Must admit I like the Borth carpark too used to have a season ticket do they still do them or is it all pay as you stay.

A long way to go, unfortunately but maybe that's part of the attraction. Mind you, doesn't stop lots getting there before you !You’ve not seen a beach until you’ve seen Luskintyre
Reminds me of a local newspaper headline in an area where there had been a WW2 training ground.......When I saw the title, I thought it was an instruction.
