Walking along the towpath of the Nantes/Brest canal yesterday with the hounds when I met a young French lady with a spaniel. She allowed it to defacate right in the middle of the path right where people walk and cycle. When she left it there I thought that she didn't have a doggy bag so offered one of mine so she could pick it up.The response was a ''non''and shrug of the shoulders as she carried on the towpath.

I have noticed a lot of dog mess on the streets of France in the last couple of weeks,it seems like they have a different attitude towards it over here.I know it's also a problem in the UK but it is definitely worse over here.

its their country - its the way it is - if it is that awful you could pick it up and dispose of it.....

Of course he could, but I don't think that was his point.

No excuse for leaving dog £$%^ around, especially in places like that. Disgusting.

Not going to descend into racial stereotyping chat but , in general , British dog owners are more conscientious .
Or , possibly , British travellers in France , Spain etc are more conscientious .

About 6 years back we splashed out on a Cruise and one of the ports we visited was Cannes in France. As we walked around the harbour we walked past ultra posh restaurants and encountered unbelievably several piles of Dog Poo right on the pavements literally inches away from the food tables set outside on the restaurant terraces. We witnessed a lady with a dog letting it crap as mentioned above then walked away leaving a steaming hot pile of poo without blinking an eyelid. So if thats how French Dog owners carry on I cant see the attraction of visiting france myself again..Better places to go...

It is definitely better than it used to be. But twice now, in France, I have been told by locals not to pick up off the path. This was as I was bending to do so.. They don’t seem to appreciate that even in the rough ground the council workers will get covered in it or children step in in.

Generally France would be a lovely place to visit if it wasn't for one thing ....

How did you know she was french ?

Did she have hairy armpits ?

when i was staying in the Arab Quarter of Bordeaux , the ''ladies'' who hissed ''m'sieu !'' from the doorways as you passed by in the evenings, were often hairy looking , sometimes fully bearded- not my tasse de the i'm afraid

Restaurant reheats and serves it as a hot dog later on.
