She’ll island to stay shut until 2021

First time I've known it shut in the 50 odd years I've been visiting....

Sensible choice though IMHO...

Half of the folks that visit in peak periods struggle to act like human beings at the best of times...
Let alone at the moment.

I'll miss my visit BUT have a couple of spots nearby that are almost as nice.

I am guessing the financial benefits of remaining closed outweigh those of opening. Rates relief, furlough, minimal operational costs, etc. I too would have visited so disappointed.

I believe they have to make a significant payment to local emergency services to maintain their camping licence due to the nature of the causeway.

I may be right or wrong but I struggle with the idea that it is impossible to socially distance on Shell Island but maybe the portaloo/ hand washing/fresh water refill thing is an issue away from the central communal hub. There is no grey water site drainage as it really is one massive field.

I suspect its not impossible IF you are dealing with sensible people....

Sadly those are in, short supply at times....

Especially at peak, season times.... August Bank holiday/Easter opening are more like 'Hell Island' than shell island, to the point I studiously avoid it like the plague at peak times.
I think the reduced capacity makes it financially not worth the risk/effort to bother opening at this late stage in the game....

Hey ho I'll wait until next year.
