On the basis he is a trader, I am amazed at his stupidity.

Firstly the safest type of transaction is a bankers draft, it costs c £25 but most garages will discount the £25 if pushed and the benefit no one gets clonked on the head.

There are dodgy bankers drafts about but a call to the bank itself will confirm authenticity.

Alternatively the buyer ensures funds are transferred to a debit card and the bank is aware of the potential transaction.

Different for a private sale, but £13500 balance is way beyond the guidelines of the money laundering act which it seems from reading the post he feels he is exempt from.

For private sellers, I would suggest bankers drafts and verify them, albeit possibly difficult at the weekend.

Alternatively forget bacs , but Chaps...funds transferred the same day, if the transaction is conducted early enough.
