Just joined the site.
Feeling a bit worried now about all the motorhome thefts ive been reading about on the site.
Just having the upgrade thatcham alarm fitted and deadlocks on all the doors but think now that it might not be enough.
Im most concerned about the obd port attacks and the disclock getting cut off.
what else can i do to protect our motorhome from the thieving scumbags.
Its taken us a long time to save up for our van and would hate to loose it through my own mistake of not sorting out the security.
Steve.

Seems the Tibbe locks are the problem Tibby  But they are on Transit based vans only, so no problem for you.

We have put in window alarms, e.g. Milenco sleep safe alarm, set of 6, but as with other thefts, if the little gits are determined they will find a way in.:mad2::mad2:
Maybe get a tracker?
Fords seem to get targeted a lot.
When you think about it, there are thousands of motorhomes all over Europe now, so the chances of it being stolen are probably not as high as they seem.
We also have stickers from Ebay: 4 x PERSONALISED Van-Internal Stickers-GPS,Courier,Delivery,Transit,Security | eBay

No, you don't need a lock pick for Sevel vans, just a screwdriver and a few seconds work, but these stop that:

Secret fuel cut of switch or valve is best as it will not do much more than fire or run for about a min alerting you.

James and I have been thinking about having this done. Any suggestions where we could get it done? And what sort of cost?

But being techies we would have no idea if it were the right size or where to fit it. I have visions of if leaking followed by an 💥. I presume most garages would be able to do this?

Depending if either a valve or switch on newish electronic vans should cost £100 to £150 in a garage.
An electronic van should be simple to rig a switch to shut the electronic pump of,im sure someone on here could do it for a few beers,switch/wire cost about £5 max.
The inline fuel valve would be the hardest one to do as cutting into pipe work around engine bay would take time and access may be tight.

Thanks. Going to talk to the brothers in the garage next door to where we will have the van parked for a week early September. They have serviced my car before and for the first time in ages I drove it and could tell.

On my Ford van I had done cost me 40 euros I have looked and cant find how he done and had to buy him a drink before he would tell me where the switch was or I would never have found it.

Fiat Ducato with alarm, disklok and deadlocks is all you can do really. Tracker if not already fitted is a good bet.

So the pedal box, additional electronic immobilisers and pro-plates (to stop the factory deadlocks being popped open with a screwdriver) that I thought I had on my van in addition to your list are all figments of my imagination then

Many thefts involve towing the motorhome away, so making that as difficult as possible with a wheel lock and a crook lock is advisable.

I also have a tracker and a grade one Thatcham alarm, but for me the best security is a good insurance policy.

No matter what you do, if someone is determined enough they will steal your motorhome, so make sure you are well insured for loss.

Be careful not to get one of those that uses a little power to hold the valve closed when ignition turned off. Our garage fitted one like that on my Landrover, and when I left it for a month it completely drained the battery and completely b•••••d it.

Thanks for the tip. Will mention this to the garage.
