Seafront invasion

My local paper West Somerset Free Press had a report in it headed Sea Front Invasion. Residents not happy moaning about motor homes running hoses from public toilets to vans and mess left etc. I wanted to attach a copy but cant.
Think we may loose this eventually at Minehead, Somerset. In the report says County Council did not come to any conclusion

As the report states many other towns have stopped overnight parking for motorhomes.
And therein lies the problem.
Also I find it hard to believe that the local campsites are struggling for business.
I recently had great trouble getting booked up for next month with all of the sites being full.
When we get a joined up national approach then this type of thing will happen much less.
Also these are not normal times, and the demand for parking and campsites is sky high.
What we don't need are knee jerk reactions from councils.

Yes Peter thats exactly what's needed alongside proper controls.
It should not be incumbent upon local people to pay for our overnight stays.
But we badly need some joined up thinking before matters get a lot worse.
Banning us is not a long term solution.
That only adds to an already worsening situation.

I drove past the Minehead North Hill campsite on Friday 'CLOSED' for all of 2020, didn't see that mentioned in the article. But I have commented on My council's failings on the papers article

We aren't doing ourselves any favours by going out in our Vans this year better we all stayed at home rather than give them the ammunition they need to put up more height barriers and parking bans

Well i went out in mt wagon today to antrim glens ,empty but Glenariff country park was full of vans,no one cares here.

what we need now is for all motor homers to be sensitive to public feelings, held rightly or wrongly, and ensure we don’t give them grounds to moan. Not all the negative behaviour is down to motor homers but a lot is and we need to stop it or we will have no wild camping in the U.K.
We not only need a joined up approach from councils toward wild camping we need a joined up and if need be enforceable code of conduct for ALL the motor homers.

Quite a few sites have decided to close for 2020, & others (including some meets in other clubs) have put their prices up...

I don’t think banning wild camping is a viable solution. To many jobs and to much money at stake. But yes we need joined up thinking and that has to come from the government. In some countries local authorities must provide facilities for wild camping, that’s what is needed here.

In arundel the other day someone in a sprinter with red bull graphic was dumping his grey waste straight in the kerb broad daylight and a puddle under his van only takes 1 to spoil it for everyone ( he could of drained in bucket and put in hedgerow or the stream discretely )

Good luck with getting any councils on board with any sort of 'new thinking' just now.

Unfortunately it was hard enough to get them to do the jobs properly that they would normally have been doing before C-19, now the virus has laid bare what a shambles local (and national) governance is at the moment.

Over the long term you may be able to fight for and achieve some changes, but don't expect miracles. I think we (i.e. wildcampers in mohos) will be way down their list of headaches to deal with over the coming months/years.

In the meantime, I will try to approach all those displaying anti-social or illegal behaviour in their campers whenever I'm out and about.
I'm a seasoned complainer anyway - but only when I feel something is completely unjust or illegal/anti-social. I may get sworn at or insulted, maybe even threatened, but I'll always have a go nonetheless. There will always be some you might get the message through to.

Think it's called something like 'civic duty', which is quite an archaic approach and probably means diddly-squat to the majority in today's society.
Most people look the other way and take the 'not my problem, mate' to the medal-winning heights of Everest.

I say if you're not prepared to at least try and do something about it, then quit whingeing.

Very easy for a woman to confront a man but men confronting men can be a problem and it can get nasty it can snowball very quickly and personally i'm not getting myself in a position i cant get out of

That's a very fair and good point and I don't blame you.

A situation where being a woman has a slight advantage for once, perhaps? 😂;)😂
Not always, though...

Although I have scared quite a few in the past with my direct approach.
They a) never expected it and b) were so stunned they either complied immediately or ran away...! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:😵

Thing is, a lot of people simply never expect to have their behaviour challenged and that is an advantage for a start, i.e. the element of total surprise.
Especially kids! What they also don't expect is for a moderately sensible-looking old woman to have such a foul mouth on her. Sailors? Pah! Baby language compared to me when I'm in one...

However, I would always make a judgement call first and weigh up any potential risks before diving in - that's if my temper doesn't manage to get in the way first!:LOL::LOL::devilish:;)

Every publican I've worked for has always sent the wife out to sort out a ruck. I don't know whether that is because she would be better at it, or cowardice.

I've been challenged because of my dog snarling at people but she is limited to 3ft from door on a rope if there is space to tie her outside or she is stuck inside - the dog is restrained - get away from van totally different dog just protecting her territory - but i will respond if challenged about vicious dog but live and let be is my motto so challenging someone for me would go wrong

Makes a change from motorhomers parking up and spoiling the view. Just seen all the empty cruise ships moored off the coast. Q the nimby's:whistle:
