I know its on one of my posts, but this is pretty good so i thought I would give it its own thread.

Im planning a trip to Ireland and on one of my forums someone suggested Sea Truck. They run a ferry from 2 points in england from heysham liverpool, to dublin or warrenpoint. Says in their website cabins and meals included in an 8 hr crossing and from £100 to £140 for a 6m motorhome with 2 people.

Has anyone used it.

Special mention to Trevskoda for the post.

I grew up and still have family about 5 miles from Liverpool so my usual route was the P&O Liverpool-Dublin ferry. A long crossing at 8 hours but the 3am ferry means I could get a reasonable sleep and arrive mid morning. While primarily a truckers route and the facilities are rudimentary, I found the prices cheaper than the Holyhead route and the ticket price includes two meals and free tea/coffee during the journey. Sadly, pets are no longer allowed on this crossing. Talk about a backwards step.

So I've been looking for an alternative, sadly Sea Truck don't carry pets either.

"Can I take pets?
Unfortunately we are unable to take pets onboard the ferries."

That's a real shame. Looks like the only option is a long drive to Holyhead.

We did it to go to Dublin from heysham and went overnight it wasn’t,t too bad but very basic and smelt of diesel fumes got fed and watered included. Was a £99 over there and 110 back. The trip back wa the longest most boring time I have ever had during the day for 11 hours of absolute nothing but looking at rain and murk out of a dirty window. It is a drop trailer ferry with maybe a driver accompanied wagon or two. They have put the price up a lot but it would be the same trip.I will not be doing it again on there as although it was cheap it was not cheerful. Pity the regular companies charge SO MUCH. Not even a cheap off peak or the like to encourage travellers to the Island.

Sadly for the pet passport/travel scheme Defra approve certain carriers the more commercial ones tend not to be approved rather than the smaller carriers not wanting to carry animals

It amazes me the ease we can travel to France and yet Ireland seems to be a complete pain in the neck

we have been using sea truck for about 5 years now sometimes twice or three times a year.
they dont take pets because of the long sea crossing & passengers are not allowed on the car decks during the crossing.
we have been on all their routes winter & summer in all weathers. the ships are very clean & are a lot steadier in the gales because of the weight they carry.
we can not find fault with them.you have a nice peaceful trip, no children running about.you have tv & your own private toilet & shower what more do you want.
the truckers we have met are friendly they are ordinary working folk, when the breakfast is over they retire to their cabins.
what is a 7 or 8 hour sea journey.
we went to france one year from rosslare in a force 8 to 9 gale. we were on the ship for 24 hours.

Great post and just exactly what we wanted. We dont have pets or kids so it sounds great to us. Perrrrrrrrrfect as they say. Thanks Tony. What more do we need. A bed, a meal, a toilet and no screaming kids to deal with lol..

At the moment, the Irish Ferries route from Holyhead is cheaper than Sea Truck for us, up to 25% discount.

Ive got a 6m camper and cheapest is £260 Irish ferries, verses £129. Maybe cars are cheaper but not motorhomes I fear.

I think it is route dependant plus size of van. Our equivalent costs are SeaTruck Heysham/Dublin @£258, Irish Ferries Holyhead/Dublin £282, Sea Truck Liverpool/Dublin £328.

I had a quick price up for next month, and from what I can make out for a 6m van it's £129 each way i.e. £258 vs. £320 for P&O, a saving of £62, considering gf's dislike of sailing I think we will stick to the much shorter route.

Being based in Preston, Heysham or Liverpool are within an hour away but it`s the price for 2 adults and a 7.5m motorhome that has stopped us going

It`s not worth lying about length either because i`ve been measured a few times now because being a low profile it looks even longer then the 7.5m it actually is :rolleyes2:

I would be worried about any sailor wanting to measure my length.:scared:
