Scottish Gov reply to petition.

A very polite "forget it pal". The campsite owner has been an anti motorhome person for a while. Its good to see the SG standing up for us.
How did you know who it was? And, where's his campsite - it sounds like one to avoid.

He posted on various groups to get people to sign his petition. He is the owner of Dornoch Campsite. When the council wanted to put motorhone bays in a Dornoch carpark he tried to get it stopped. He did not get a huge number of signatures for his petition and gots lots of posts were supportive of motorhomes.

After reading through this it highlighted how many public toilets are used to dump chemical waste from cassettes. The solution to this is simple, instal chemical waste points outside of the toilets. This has been done to a limited extent, but needs to be prioritised. The POI in New England bay out side the C&MC site has had one installed.

The SG have shown that they understand our situation, and our requirements. And rightly they have highlighted that there are idiots amongst us, whose selfishness is only surpassed by their stupidity. Quite frankly our biggest enemies are not local councils who make our life difficult, but these people who abuse facilities made available to them.

Hopefully this reply will lay the foundation for improvements that are long overdue.

Well I will make sure I never visit this site.

Just looked at this site they charge £11 to empty your toilet and refill your water tank. You would think they would encourage motorhomes at this kind of price. When you think that the CCC charge £7.60 for this plus give three hours access to the site for showers etc £11 seems steep. For an extra £9 you could spend a night there using all facilities apart from EHU, if on your own then only an additional £4.

Also this site like the vast majority in Scotland are only opened for six months. Does this guy think we only use our vans for six months.
People who own caravan sites should have no input in such matters.
Its obvious why they don’t want to see more facilities being provided, and their concerns are not about their local communities, it’s their bank balance that concerns them, and nothing else.

I do like their language in the first paragraph of the response. Very refreshing;

The Scottish Government acknowledges that there can be challenges associated with the behaviour of some motorhome users. It is our understanding however that most motorhome users are not purposely disrespectful and many are seeking to enjoy a quiet, peaceful getaway and dispose of their waste at a suitable location.

In the above article there are quotations from the owners of Dornoch Campsite. Lynn & Darren Redfern.

I also think that the hire companies could do more.

When they lease the motorhomes out, they could make it clear to hirers that if evidence is provided regarding abuse of the system (emptying of waste illegally or using site facilities without paying) then they will lose their deposit.

If he is telling the truth about motorhomers using the showers and filling up with water without paying then I have some sympathy there.

I have known members of this forum do that.

Why don't they publish figures detailing how much they have made at their rip off price of £11.

I would never use any facilities offered by these people.

They are either lying through their teeth, or exaggerating the 'problem' for their own financial gain.

There is a new waste point coming at Grampian Motorhomes. They are being supported by the CAMpRA waste point fund to put the waste point in at their motorhome hire business. There will also be an aire there. Not open yet.

Rob even if they are being truthful, they are obviously exaggerating the problem for their own selfish reasons. The vast majority would never behave this way.
As I stated last week Rob, Aires and other facilities are competition for campsites, and folk who own campsites don’t want competition.

Oh believe me Bill I agree with you. Even worse when councillors have an interest in campsites and they often do.
