Scotland west coast

Hello all,
We are off to the Scottish west coast last two weeks in July, two motorhomes, plan to travel along coastal area possibly onto Skye, maybe Mull, Harris/ Lewis we are keen kayakers and also love wild sites, has anyone got any good info on possible places to stay off the beaten track, where we can have a fire on or near a beach and launch the boats, it has been a bit of a dream to do this as we have always had to stay on sites in the UK and Wales, which is fine but...any info or help would be great

Hi Adrian - we have just returned from our third trip to the Inner/Outer Hebrides, with our camper van and (for the first time) our new kayaks. We stayed at Fidden Farm in Mull and whilst this is a campsite, its very informal with no hook ups, and you can just park up right on the beach and at high tide paddle back to your van. There were lots of islands nearby to paddle to, and grey seals kept us company. We've also been to Arasaig which has a lovely CL right on the beach too, and fantastic kayaking. There are many wild camping spots on Lewis and Harris, and Barra and Bernaray are lovely. I'll try to find out where we camped and post some grid references. Good choice for a holiday - sure you will have a great time.

if you wish i can recomend resipole camp site in ardnamurchan
therye you can park on site and go kayking all day on loch sunart.

one thing to remember scotland isint england we have our own restrictions but you seem to have the right idea,fire on the beach.
loch duich on way to skye,

glenelg on way to skye but taking the ferry route beach in front of you and wildcamping aswell.

Hey thanks a lot that is the sort of info i need, we are really looking forward to going, not really explored Scotland that much, but where i have been has been stunning, i read ' Blazing Paddles , a Scottish sea oddesey' recently which has more than inspired me to do this trip, any grid refs would be great thanks again

word of advice take a waterproof vhf radio with you

mobiles dont work that well up the west coast way but vhf does.

im sure you will have one just hope you dont have to use it.
