I'm not sure if I am using the correct forum but here goes:
I intend visiting Scotland in September and would like some site recommendations from members who have been there recently. Also interested in regulated site/service areas. As I am hoping to see and experience many beautiful sites etc. If you have a really special place you think I should visit please let me know, I have a more of a scenery/buildings interest rather than garish noise and hubbub.

Thanks, Bigbarry:eek:

How long have you got and how far are you going to travel? Scotland is a big beautiful country

Hi, I live in Bonny Scotland and it is very beautiful in most places, eg St Andrews has a lovely wild camping site right on the sea front with toilets then moving further up north you have Aberdeen which also has a lovely wild camping area down by the harbour where you can watch all the boats going in harbour and there is also a lot of shops which is within walking distance so there is plenty to see and do. On the west coastline you have beautiful hills with plenty of camping places in the hills where nobody bothers you it is very peaceful and watching the wild deer etc at night is a sight to see. Hope you enjoy your visit to Scotland.:)

Hi,

I too stay in Scotland (NW) if you get north past Inveness the Scenery gets even better, with plenty of places to either wild or site, the west coast is best for scenery, but best to ensure you have a minimum fuel reserve of at least 50miles, ideally 100 as filling stations are a relatively rare commodity up here, and the prices tend to be VERY high in the rural areas,

That all said you cannot go far wrong in most of Scotland

No need to use camping sites in Scotland. Just wild camp in Laybyes/carparks and side of the road etc.

Applecross/Sheildag/Loch Torridon has spectacular scenery. There's "free" camping at Sheildag. Very basic - water only. Public toilets 2 mins walk on the loch front. Honesty box if you stay there. £3 to £5 a night would be fair but it's all up to you. Why pay £20 a night for not much more?

If your looking for a site with EHU, showers, etc..Scone (C&CC) is very good it's situated next door to Perth race course (horses) and nearby Scone Palace is worth the visit..They say Perth is the gateway to highlands.

Rothiemurchus camping site just outside Aviemore is a lovely little site with excellent showers and facilities and lovely walks into the Lairig Ghru.
There are Red Squirrels there and the outside chance of seeing a Pine Martin. It is walkable into Aviemore from there too. If you really want a site, I can't recommend this one enough!

A few miles down the road from there is the Glenmore site at the foot of Cairngorm Mountain and next to Loch Morlich. Another lovely site with fantastic views.

I echo the post about shieldaig..it is provided by the locals. so please put a couple of quid in the honesty box it is used by the local community to provide the benches and picnic tables along the loch side. They are trying to use the money to install a nest camera for the community on the shieldaig island where there are a pair of nesting white tailed sea eagles.
Don't be a meany campers are most welcome and don't park your van down in the village as I saw some people do and then walk up the hill to watch the stunning sunsets.

The North west of Scotland is motorhome heaven with lots of places to wild camp in stunning scenery. Just back from a two week stint up that way..marvellous, now I want to go back.

There are simply too many places to list. Have a look at my Virtual Tourist pages. We wild camp in Scotland every year and i report on this site.
