Scary!

ROADRUNNER

Guest
I've noticed during the last cold weather whenever the temperature in my van drops below zero the radio switches itself on and starts playing!
One of my neighbours is a spirit medium, perhaps one of the spirits crept in and switched it on?
I've taken the fuse out now so all is well!

Hi Trev
Do you remember hearing Junior Walker and the All Stars singing (I'm) a Roadrunner recorded in the 1960's?

i have a similar problem where my radio suddenly comes on, gets louder, changes channels constantly... seems to happen whenever my daughter comes to stay :lol-049:

Seriously, this is fascinating... I even googled it. Several people suggested it could be fluctuating voltage from a failing alternator. Others said it could be the radio's road traffic announcements being broadcast! Spoookeh!

Could this be one of the many causes of the dreaded low or flat battery we hear of. Perhaps removing the faceplate is as good as removing the fuse.

Alf

My cousin had that problem with her car, which is regularly left for months at a time. She kept finding its battery had gone flat, then someone told her that the radio was switching on in cold weather. Removing the fuse fixed the problem, but I do wonder what was the underlying cause.

Dont know about you lot but i do think there is to much nonsense in modern cars / vans,my newish car can do everything except make coffee,if it goes wrong do i drive a stake through its brain at the seventh hour of the seventh day on the seventh month of any year ending in seven.

I imagine Alpine radios to be less susceptible to this phenomenon !

Try as you might, but there's just no way to get Coldplay
completely off your radio :hammer:

Well, yes, but I remember car radios that had valves. They were really power hungry, and the reception was terrible!

Mine had a cats whisker and head phones.:lol-053: i feel a monty python moment coming on.
