Hi , this has stopped working in Spain due to Intelsat being turned off.
So we are having it removed to make way fo fixed air con unit.
I was told that it would have some residual value but can find mutch of a market place.
Don't really want to bring it back to uk where we understand it would still work.
Anybody got any thoughts on what it might be worth ?
Aircon contractor does not seam bothered if I take it away or not @.

As you know I have the same dish, the 85cm one. They are not far of £2k new so it must have some value I would think. Its a pretty good dish and a high spec from what I can gather. Can it not pick up other satellites? I know it can pick up Astra 1 so it might have some value where you are. Maybe speak to Robert Jackson he might know.

Probably zero value for the receiver, the satellite is not transmitting so it wouldn't work anywhere. The dish would off course have some value.

It will, it will pick up Astra 2 once in the footprint. Im using the same dish right now.

Yes ,we can't get any mainstream channels down here in Spain but I am told it will pi k up other satellites if in their footprint. Have messaged Robert for his advice.

I think the problem is intelsat footprint does not reach Spain. The dish can be used for other satellites and still works but maybe need to be further North to work with other satellites.

Any German could use it in Spain for German TV onAstra 1. 19.2deg.
Yes I thought it could still have some use , just need to find someone who will give me a few Bob otherwise I leave it with the aircon contractor.

According to the instructions Robert sent me it can get Intelsat, Astra 1 and Astra 2. However as you know Intelsat such down a couple of years ago I think. Astra 1 should be fine though and Astra 2 I suspect with an 85cm dish should start picking stuff up in Northern Spain or the south of France but I'm just guessing. My old Camos Dome picked up about 5 different satellites via its control box so maybe there is another box that can be supplied that will allow you or someone else to pick up others. Astra 1 though is probably the one the funny foreigners will want. :D

Thanks fir this , we did try to lock onto other satellites in Northern Spain and Southern France without any luck although wife (who is in charge of these matters) thinks coordinates might have changed ?
In any event the need for fixed air con seams to have taken precedence and she has firestick and Internet for tv so I think the dish is going.
I will see what Robert says but am now thinking not worth the hassle trying to sell ,and deliver, it.

Im pretty sure it should lock onto Astra 1. Astra 1 I think is available all over Europe and even into North Africa. I did get mine to lock onto Astra 1 which is somehow how I got Astra 2 working after much fiddling. Its possible your unit might need an upgrade or patch which it may have to go back to Jackson Leisure for (just the control panel) or it may be one you can do yourself. I see your dilemma though. I think the best thing would be to get Astra 1 working and try and sell it locally.

I reckon fire stick and internet are the future, and a much cheaper option.
With one of these fire sticks so long as you have around at least 6MBs you can watch just about anything anywhere.
And the way the world is heading it wont be long until good coverage is vastly improved from what it is today.
Also unlimited data deals at cheap prices are becoming the norm,
I have an EE sim in my vans router at £13 a month.
Obviously it would be limited outside the UK.

I think the capped data might be the biggest downer on streaming if abroad? Of course, the satellite 8s only useful abroad if still within the footprint of the signal butI understand people in Spain pick up Astra2?

I fitted a used Snipe auto-finding Sat system. Cost with the fixing bits, cables, etc was maybe £100 and I am very pleased with that and having it now I would be willing to maybe double the cost if doing it again but don't think I would pay the kind of brand new prices they sell for, even just for parts let alone installation on top.

Yes David, I agree that currently the limits on data abroad are an issue.
But do you remember when we were charged for calls, and allowed a hundred texts a month. Then we got unlimited texts, then unlimited calls. I am paying EE £13 a month for unlimited data, and I bet soon that will become the norm.
Possibly in the next few years using data abroad will be the same as making calls unlimited. Also coverage is improving all the time, and will continue to do so for years to come.
