Satellite Reception - Help!

I have a Maxview Omnisat 54 dish with a Comag SL30/12 Receiver. When I tune it in, loads channels appear in the Channel List on the screen, but when I come to view them I only get foreign channels and not BBC 1, ITV etc. It says no signal on the screen .I have the dish lined up in the right place I think, and have followed the tuning in process, and it is also in the same direction as my Sky dish at home. I am tuned into Astra 28-2E satellite. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong. Thanks

just a thought, if you have sky at home, unplug the sky system and try your camping model at home to see if the uk channels work there. I have used a satellite suitcase for years and have had reception in surprising locations including the far North Scottish coast. The setting up can take pin point accuracy milometers left or right and the tilt of the dish all come into play when setting it up. I almost give up when i first tried mine. Also i think in settings I can select all satellites or just individual ones, try selecting just Astra if this is the case.

James

you're probably on Astra 19E turn about 10 degrees left and up a bit if I remember.

Good idea to set it up on a known Sky dish first then you know that the receiver is set up for Astra 28.5E.

Make sure you've got a good view of the sky, operating from a van can mean that the dish is too low and you cannot get a clear view of the part of the sky where the satellite is

You've defo got Astra 1, at 19 deg E.
I've got the same receiver, and similar dish.
That receiver has a built in signal finder, which screams when on satellite.
Astra 2 is slightly east, and approx 3 deg lower than astra 1.
If it takes me longer than 5 mins to locate the signal, then somethings wrong !

Some good info on sullivans satellite for caravans (it's called somebit like that.....google it). I downloaded, and printed, the list that he's compiled showing bearings and elevations of astra 2 for lots of locations in UK & Europe. It's invaluable !
