Satellite problem

We have an onboard Sat TV which has worked fine in the past but this last trip gave us no end of problems till we gave up and did without.

It seems the decoder is the problem. Somehow or other it looses its settings and despite getting them from the importer and inputting them again it still won't play ball. The importers suggestion is that we should now get a new one at around £700 but that seems steep given that the one we currently have is only 4-5 years old.

Are we being too optimistic here? Is something 5 years old really outdated in this fast moving electronics market?

Hi
Like computers a lot of sat boxes and for that matter home sat/dig tv boxes have a small battery within them to save the settings when the power is turned off. Sometimes these are a genuine battery sometimes they are soldered onto the board. Just like a normal rechargable battery they will fail eventually and need replacing.

I would take the lid off and look for a battery, if you can't see one get an electrocics engineer to take a look, trouble is most of these things are cheaper to replace than fix :D

sat problem

Hi flower3 bird,
I have been installing sat systems in vans for quite a few years now, if you don,t get fixed up by van blitz give me a ring 07726 265275 and maybe I can solve your problem. To quote £700 for a new decoder is ludicrous, a complete fully automatic system would be only £1200 fitted
Regards Frank
