Satellite dish query

Mark in France

Guest
I'm looking for a small cheap setup and I've seen truckdrivers using 35cm dishes which stick to the window or bodywork with a suction cap. Doea anyone know if they're any good?

The satellite footprint for Astra at 28.2E is changing at the end of the year and a 35cm will not get you any English speaking channels worth watching so don't waste your money, I used a dish as you have described for years when Sky first started because the beam pointed over Europe not just the UK, more info here
Sorry, I am presuming you mean for France

Aldi has a good system for £59 with everything you need including a suction cup fitting for sticking it to a window. Very portable and I beleive its a HD tuner box that is 12v with a main adapter. I've used the tunner with my home dish and was very pleased with it's performance. Another extra is that it has a usb input and I found that it played most movies well, evem manage to play a few 3d movies but dose not play all of the moderrn video files but for the money was well impressed. Sure it is Aldi's but if not then try Lidl don't know why I keep mixing them up.

I have a Liddl setup, cannot fault it except for the "finder". I bought a unit on Ebay for £29 that finds terrestial and satallite signals. By using this unit I can stop the van, Fix sat dish pointing in roughly right direction, switch on and pick up the strongest signal all within 10 minutes. Also I can find terrestial strongest signal within seconds.

Why not Watch Online

In deepest Algarve this summer on sites with a half decent wifi we were watching BBC on line using Filmon.com. Our sat dish didn't leave the box until we got to Paris!

PS. We pick up our Hymer 640 Starline at 14.30 today: whoopee!

I forget the exact wording but when in France earlier this year I tried to watch catch up TV on computer and got a message saying detected out of area

As well as using Filmon.com for UK TV we used 'Expatshield.com' with great success. It tell Big Brother at the BBC that you are in the UK. You can switch it off at any time. We also met a guy in The Algarve who gave us 40 feature films in a chip. He'd used a download site and the quality was quite watchable!
