there is nothing blocking the veiw am i doing somthing wrong?
any help?
thanx J.

Hi J
I have had this problem in the past and I found my satellite was locking onto another satellite before astra . Trying turn system off and move dish from east to south that worked for me.

All the best
Rob

Do you know how to see the signal strength and quality through your Sky box (assuming you're trying to get Sky?) - used to take me ages, now takes under 5 minutes using just me, a compass and a view of the TV screen.

Use a compass (away from the dish) to set angle, then raise & lower arm to set dish angle (a normal offset house dish wants the dish about verticle as a starting point.

Once you have a 'lock' use the signal strength and quality under 'settings' on your sky box, then mark the side of the arm with a spirit level. When finished glue a spirit 'bubble' from a cheap keyring etc on the side of the LNB arm.

Now all you need to do when setting up is to aim dish via compass and set dish angle via the spirit level bubble - you will now be VERY close for fine tuning via sky box or a satellite finder!

Practice really does make perfect, the first time takes an hour (or in your case a day!) then the next time is around 5mins! Good luck!

hi,
if your sat system is like the "maplins" one
then it should be quite easy
first, forget about sat. finders etc.
if you can see your tv screen from outside
(mines on a double swivel wall bracket)
then switch on both tv and sat reciever
point the dish in a general south east direction
make sure your dish is secure and not wobbly
(mine is mounted on a camera tripod)
the arm from the dish to the lnb should be excactly horizontal
tune in to bbc1 in the preloaded programs
on the remote control press info
the signal intensity & signal quality should be blue and green respectivly
if they are white turn the dish--"very slowly"--to the left or right
you will see the picture appear in the background
then tilt the dish --"very slowly" ---to get the best reading
should be intensity around 92-3
and quality around 78-80
ps ifthe signal quality or intensity stays white and dosen't move at all
then you have a bad conection
I know its not easy to start
it took me 4 hours the first time
now it takes 20 seconds

best of luck

Hi guys .
Thanx for the replys . I'll give it a go tomo (last day then bak 2 wok:( )
I have read up on how it takes a little patience so I think I've got some left! Lol.
Can I ask is a satellite kit better than a digital aerial ?
Thanx J

Satellite

Hi Satellite is much more consistent than freeview once you get used to setting it up.

We have used a Maplin kit very successfully with a very small dish for about 3 years now. We use a compass to get our bearings then set the signal starting from south and moving the dish in the appropriate direction by looking at the TV through the van window. You will pass hotbird and Atra 1 on your way. If you select a channel you know is on astra 2 with the box and TV then call up the signal on the same display you can be sure you are tuning on to the right satellite. We have found this far more consistent than using a sat meter.

Last year in France we were often set up and watching the world cup long befoe some with much bigger dishes! Others we went to assist were receiving a huge signal from the wrong satellite hence no picture. You must also factor in when using a compass the difference between true and magnetic north.

Good luck

did you get it sorted in the end?
Took me ages to get mine sorted first of all..well actually nearly hit myself first time as spent over a hour trying then found i hadnt plugged the cable into the sky box
can get mine sorted in about 5 mins now..I also use the i phone app as it can save a lot of time as you can see where the satelite is before setting up and finding out a tree is in the way..
