Hi
I am wanting to purchase a portable sat.nav.for finding my way around europe this summer.
Can anyone suggest a reliable system for europe.- no fancy items needed, just a good easy gadget

We've just bought a Mio Map sat nav off ideal world shopping channel. It comes with one sd card with Britain and the main roads of Europe. It also has a CD with more detailed maps of Europe on it , you need to buy additional SD cards to download off the CD. The cost of the unit was £279,a1GB sd card cost an extra £40,we will need another couple of sd cards to get all of Europe .It works OK, although the maps that I have downloaded myself are a bit slower than the original one. We've not had chance to use it much so I can't reccomend it either way, just check up how many extra cards you need,because it can work out dearer than you think.

tomtom 700 ,used it to go to Poland.
no problem ...( easy driving ).

I second that or is it thirth , bought a TomTom 700 and it's great.

If You have got a laptop, why not go for InfoMap Navigator. I found it excellent. Far cheaper than some options

I bought the Medion PNA175 from Halfords for £175 and then downloaded the full detail Europe maps free from http://seedler.org/en/html/info/453547 (for which I bought an additional 1gb SD card from www.ebuyer.co.uk for about £20).

So far I have used it for trips to Spain and Greece as well as many journeys around the UK. Only country missing that I need is Croatia. Apart from that it is absolutely faultless, very easy to use and great value for money!

I use Tomtom version 5 on an Ipaq PDA, have used it all over Europe for the past 18 months without a problem.

I agree i have a Pda with Tom Tom 5 navigator and have travelled all over Europe using it without a problem.
Plays mp3 off the Pda connected via radio signal into van stereo
Use it on my trailered motorbike mainly to find my camper which pre Sat nav lost for a period of time in Belguim for 1hour.
Finds Campsites easily straight to the gate.

Hi wander. I found the cheapest and best solution for us was a 1995/1996 Map of Europe donated to us by a friend who was chucking it out. We covered Holland, Belguim, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Andorra and of course England. We bought a Rand McNally Map of the USA/Canada for the princely sum of $4.98 from Walmarts and covered 7,500 miles through 13 different states. We have always got to where we were going. Just a thought. :lol:
