you need to become a full member to download POI downlaods, and i think its a very personal choice re sat nav, I had a rac and it was rubbish so i then got a Tom Tom, had it 3 yrs and had no problem, but it is eachto their own i think

ok let's put it another way.i've never had a sat nav,so if i buy one, how do i download the wild camping sites?is it through a memory stick, or straight from the laptop to the sat nav? i don't want to get one and find there's no way of doing this ,or is it possible on all satnavs? awaiting enlightenment i hope.i also paid for membership now

TomTom is the market leader, which speaks for itself IMHO.

Of course there are other makes, Garmin for one, which are highly respected too. Just do a bit of research.

Once you have mastered the basics of getting the files on to your device you will discover there are sites like Navitotal that provide tutorials about many other things that will increase you enjoyment and make motorhoming even more fun.

PM me if you want any more detailed info.

Just think TWICE about getting ProNav, as the POI download doesn't include this one. It can be done, apparently, but doesn't look too easy. A shame, as with ProNav you can enter your height, width, length and weight; so in theory you can avoid unsuitable roads. We got it for our caravan originally, but having seen the light, we now have a motorhome.

You can enter HEIGHT, WEIGHT, WIDTH, AXLE WEIGHT, ETC. with tomtom TRUCK software, be advised of dead ends with audible warning and more.

Brilliant! I've frequently wondered why sat navs don't offer a 'suitable for caravans, etc' option. It's really frustrating to find out too late that the road is not suitable.

Especially in Italy, where railroads run along the coastline and i am trying to get to the beach and find it is 2m high. No signs before until you get there. All traffic have to back up for me to do a U turn. Must say it was a good laugh at times.
