Sat dish problem.

Ok so sometimes we are stupid - like last week when we stopped for lunch and watched TV. We drove on down the German autobahn without remembering to put our very large dish down. AND it had been facing forward when it was up. Consequence was the wind pushed it back and down on its hinges.

When we finally realised the problem we stopped and did manage to get it first up, albeit it leaning back far too far. And to then put it to bed properly. But now of course when we try to put it up to receive TV the angle of the dish is obviously way out as it is laying back far too far.

Does anyone know how we can reset the dish at the correct angle please? I don't suppose we are the first to do this but god don't you feel a fool when it is you !!

Ooops! Sorry I can't help you with your problem, but i just want to reassure you that you're not the only forgetful ones. We drove off with our step out once and took it off at the first tight corner we went round...we were lucky not to take any pedestrians out! It's a learning experience..you'll never do it again. Hope you can get it fixed.

What type of dish, manual/automatic any pics etc

I've driven off with the TV antenna up or the roof vent open.

I now put a cloth on the gearstick for tv antennas and hook my keys over the skylight handle.

It's more often when you've stopped for a short break and need to get on your way that this happens.

When packing up after a nights stop, I go around making sure everything's away before driving off.

It is a telco automatic dish. No pics as we were panicking to get it down at the time and I think hubby would have killed me if I had got the camera out !

We did get it to go flat again and are very reluctant to put it up unless we feel we have some info to help us put it right.

Someone must know how?? Please?

If it's automatic then it should find the satalite. As it clearly isn't then it sounds like you have bent something. The first thing to look at is the LNB unit (the bit on the end of the arm). This should have a slight off-set angle (usually discribed as 'at 7 O'clock'). Is the arm it'self bent?

Manualy setting it, you should be just up from horizontal (23 degrees ish, depending on where in the country your are) and the dish pointing 176degrees from north (or slightly left of south!!). Possibly try setting it up manually and then retighten everything and hopefully the auto search bit will start to work again once it has a reference point??

Press the on button, and get it to go looking for a signal. If you got it to go flat before then if it doesn't find the sat you should be able to get it flat again.
You've not lost anything, and it might work. You'll not know 'til you try.
