We are heading towards Bournemouth next week and then following the coast along to the Weymouth area.

Could anyone tell me is the Sandbanks POI still ok to park up for the night?

Also any other really good stops?

Sandbanks NO NO NO:sad::sad::sad:

Have you seen the price of the houses there ?
You think they want some welsh hippy from the valleys messing up their view ![/QUO

Don't care what they want they are having me.

I was in Weymouth on Tuesday. Firstly, even parking a car is difficult and expensive. Lots of No Sleeping in vehicles signs even around the now defunct Condor Ferries quay. (Although you can park overnight) I was amazed that there was POI in Sandbanks at all! I haven't tried it but you might have more luck on the otherside of the ferry route.

Off Topic::eek:fftopic: There was still an air of sadness in the town over the loss of the MFV Purbeck Isle. Her mooring on the quay was being kept empty, but decorated with flowers and tributes to the men who lost their lives. It was all very poignant and makes you realise just how expensive the fish on your plate can sometimes be.

If there is a single town in the UK that has its head firmly stuck were the sun don’t shine it’s Weymouth.

We have a huge new Park and Ride at the bottom of the new road from Dorchester – well over a thousand places. A survey just done shows it’s hardly being used – and although it will be used for the Olympics it wasn’t just built for that. It currently costs around £300,000 loss per year to run.

I wrote to the powers to be and suggested why not section a bit off and have say 10 spots for motorhomes just like France, Germany etc etc. Pointed out all the benefits but you guessed it – not interested, just reiterated the line that the CP is closed at night. Weymouth is fixed in a continuing downward spiral.

After I visited Weymouth I went along the coast to visit an elderly relative. He is an ex-Commodore of one of the oldest sailing clubs in Poole harbour and he knows the score when it comes to boating matters. It seems that the reason Weymouth lost Condor Ferries business was that the type of craft that Condor uses causes scouring under the harbour wall. The company were (reported to) be paying £1m a year for the use of the facility. The authorities did not spend sufficient to remedy this damage, with the result that cracks appeared in the harbour wall rendering it unsuitable for use by the ferry company.

They have moved to Poole, where they now, it seems, are paying Poole £0.5m a year. Poole have taken in hand the dredging/replacement necessary to service the Condor craft damage. Both the Ferry company and the Poole Harbour authority are happy with the arrangement. Particularly as it would appear that they are to lose the Britanny Ferries business at the end of the season.

In the past we've parked up at Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth. It's right up on top of a hill with amazing views but not sure if it's still available.

We used to live in Poole and still have friends there so we are lucky enough to be able to rock up and park on their drive.
