I only just found this out, but many may know already that you can register your phone with emergency services.
Txt 999 REGISTER 2 and they send you a reply and txt back YES job done …
It makes me feel better having about another added safety.

Maybe I’m just late finding this one out and it’s common knowledge
Story of my life 😝

Sorry if I'm being dense but what does that actually do? I mean, if you need emergency services you could dial 999 whether the phone was registered or not? If you don't need emergency services, what benefit do you get from your phone being registered?

It's aimed mainly at the deaf/hard of hearing and/or speaking impaired community. It can also be handy if you are regularly in areas of poor reception where a text message might get through but voice not.

You register by sending a text with the single word: REGISTER to 999, then waiting for the reply. You then send a 2nd text message with the single word reply: Yes (once you're read and understood the reply) You must pre-register before you can use the service.

After that you can send texts to 999 to summon the emergency services.

Obviously if you can speak and hear then you just use the emergency facility on your phone as usual (most mobiles can now call directly from the lock-screen without unlocking or dialing anything).

Thank you ! It’s good to know they would know your precise location if you got into a difficult situation. I wear a hearing aid when I can put up with the nuisance thing that is … doing trips on my own it’s piece of mind knowing I got other safety measures in place.

WHAT DID HE SAY ??

To help emergency service staff know who to contact, set up ICE contacts in your phone.
This stands for In Case of Emergency.

Enter details (in priority) of who you would want someone to contact if you were taken ill or taken to hospital.
This can be anyone - a partner, parent, friend etc.
Enter ICE1, ICE2 etc with a relationship and name & phone number

e.g
ICE1 Wife Mary Dent
ICE2 Sister Tricia Mcmillion
ICE3 Friend Zaphod Beeblebrox

Your ICE contact must agree to this, and should know any important medical information about you.

If you don’t have a mobile phone, write the information on a card in your wallet or purse.
Worth dong this anyway in case you phone id=s damaged.

What Three Words. Is very useful and and easy to use to give a precise location for emergency services. We live rural and using the app got the ambulance to my neighbour who had fell off a ladder.
Its already been discussed on the forum but it’s always good to remind people and it’s handy for sharing wild spots😉 and giving to the courier

A simple explanation of how it works.

Do you just enter these into the address book in your phone or register them with someone/some entity?

Just enter them in your phone.

If the emergency services find your phone they look at any Ice contacts and will try and contact them in sequence.
If you have put it in the services will know what their relationship is with you (i.e. they know if it is your son or just a mate).

Make sure the contact has agreed to be on your list and knows any relevant medical or other information .
