Can anyone on here recommend any Rust treatment (wax oil) companys that do Motorhomes in the North, have looked at the wax oil centre at Morpeth any one used them?
Any information or advice welcome.

Hi I apply waxoil to all of my vehicles with a low pressure air gun , I warm the oil up first . I apply this every two years and have used it for over 25 years. Hope this helps.

Regards
Steve

I have used Waxoyl a lot in the past on previous vehicles. I only ever found it slowed down rust. The problem is still there once you have it

OK mine was not "professionally" applied but I have seen these rust treatment places say the same thing. You have to keep repeating the treatment, maybe every 2-5 years depending on conditions driven in. Obviously winter driving in salt sprays is the worst.

Waxoyl is not really a rust 'treatment', more of a rust prevention.

For treatment of existing rust I've tried Loctite - lasted a year then rust reappeared. I am currently trialling Fertan.

I know that the only really effective long term treatment is to grind or cut it all out, but that's not always practical.

Still no sig...

Just had mine done at Morpeth last month , only a small business but very good.left the van at 8.00 got the train just round the corner into Newcastle for the day and picked the van back up at 3.30 all done.

most rust come's from inside out now adays you can't prevent it,as it is already sealed in the metal and you don't know where till it break's though, then as andyc says grinding the cancer out is the only way,we still steam off underneath on the 4 poster ramp then spray with red diesel then old engine oil on quite a few old customers classic and vintage motors still as good as any shop bought treatment

I've never been a fan of Waxoil other than for a new vehicle, As andyc says its a preventative not a treatment. Once you have rust if you want rid then you have to work very hard. Jenolite or similar Hammerite gels work well but take time and patience and cutting out very bad patches is sometimes all you can do.

I spent 4 weeks under our van this year with a wirebrush and 2 cans of Hammerite paint for frames and large solid steel bits you can't beat it IMHO. I then used DINITROL RC800 on the insides of the frames, doors and bonnet cavities. In fact anywhere I could spray into, Its pretty easy to do.

The one thing I like about doing this myself and not leaving it to a company is that I have a good feel for the current state of the underneath and I can keep an eye on places that I feel might cause concern.

Even the best garage is not going to spend anymore time than they need to whilst you can spend as much time as it takes.

I don't mind doing it myself but the big barrier I find is access. The real advantage a pro place has is a ramp which makes the job 10 times easier.

There is a guy who advertises Waxoyl proofing frequently in MMM . I think he is in the Midlands. He always starts his full page ads with "I don't own a motorhome because I can't afford one, but if I could, I get it treated at (insert his name here)...."

To me, this puts you off at line one because it begs the question, if your service was any good you'd be making a mint and be able to afford several motorhomes... is it just me who noticed this?

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has used his service. When I see the advert again, I'll check out the name and edit this post for you.

as i said in previous post all that treatment dose is seal it in and make it look nice while it festers:rolleyes: but then i make good money cutting it out and welding it up at testing time:eek::D

How much does a treatment of waxoil cost,i am told it is a horrible job.
If full timing this is not a job you can do yourself,so would need to be done at a garage anyhow.

Whatever you do to combat rust, do it soon This is what you get if you dont............

Booked my motorhome into the Waxworks in Morpeth later this month £370, thanks to you all and i will report back afterwards. Glenn

I had the Bongo waxoiled on the Barrington Road in Bedlington. From Bedlington
Station at the mini roundabout turn right then left into the small factory unit, it is the
MOT Garage that did the job for me. 4 years back about £120.

Just for info as you have now booked your vehicle in.

The local beach fishermen who drive their 4x4s down the beach, throw wet nets in the back, etc. swear by the electronic rust protection - they gave up on waxed oils and underseals about 5 - 7 years ago. I bought a Megapulse unit about 6 months ago as I was suffering from a couple of rust blisters - so far so good. The blisters have stopped growing.

I struggled with the physics of how these units worked for years, and still dont understand the nuclear physics behind them. The unit produces excess electrons from a small electrical charge, the free electrons are then "sacrificed" to the air instead of the electrons in the steel body. Protects internal and external. I've had a few stone chips and noticed that no rust has appeared at all.

Plenty of the large mining companies in Australia now fit them to their vehicles as standard as coal dust is a haven for rust to start. Most car dealers in my area now offer the units as an option for additional rust protection.

hi all, my convoy is fully coated underneath with hull bitumen as used on narrow boats but as said previously, once rust/rot is set in only way to stop it is cut it out and weld new plate in! i welded a complete new floor in my van then bitumened inside and out.also whilst i was under there i took time to check everything over,i changed all brakepipes at same time and coated them too.unkike tetroseal etc boat bitumen goes off quite quick and ends up smooth so stuff sticks less and also i jet wash off easily too.total cost to unseal my truck in/out approx £40 + time
