Popped down to Ruby Bay today in the van for a couple of nights, mainly to have a meal in the Ship Inn. We must have been here a dozen times in the past at all times of year. However this is the first time since a £10 overnight charge was introduced and also the first time that we have been the only motorhome here. Coincidence or not if this is the effect of charging then I say bring it on. I used to get really annoyed when there were up to 30 motorhome here completely disregarding the “only 7 motorhome in marked bays rule”, which annoyed the locals beyond belief.
Hopefully things will calm down now

Heading there ourselves Friday and Saturday. Could not agree more. Can you pay by card or cash.

Top machine takes card and cash but the card reader is a bit iffy (spoke to a Ranger who tells me the wifi signal for the reader comes across from E Lothian and doesn’t always work!), Bottom machine takes cash only.
Never been here when it’s been so quiet before - only ones here and previously there have always been at least all the official bays full.

Took this shot last time we were there.

This is pretty local for me but just far enough away to be a lovely night out. Thank you. The busyness has put me off even trying for the past few years but I have to say, £10 is worth every penny to be sure of a space

Another lovely spot in fife is Craigmead near Falkland. There are five overnight parking spots there now, and as far as I know they are still free. But unlike Kingsbarns and Elie, Craigmead does not suffer from to many vans. We have spent nights on our own there even in summer. It does get busy during the day with cars. There are two small hills to do east and west Lomond. You can also walk down into Falkland.
I have not heard if the £10 charge has helped during the summer months. I won’t make any judgements based on winter months. We were there this time last year with no charge with only one other van. But during the summer months I witnessed some poor behaviour, including emptying cassettes into the toilet. And before I get told they clean the toilet, this guy was in and out in less than a minute. Signs were also up asking not to do this.

Fife council have a positive attitude towards us, and I hope I remains this way, because the vast majority of us deserve nothing less. Anyway we are heading there this weekend, we only go in winter now, we love the walk from Elie to Anstruther/Cellardyke. We get our fish and chips then get the bus back. The walk to Killconquer through the estate grounds is a nice walk also.

Interested to find how the Ship Inn has found the reduction in business
Had dinner in the Ship on Tuesday evening and we were really surprised at how busy it was (luckily we had booked). The bar was heaving and the downstairs dining room was completely full. We were in the upstairs dining room by the window with fantastic views, and there were only 2 unoccupied tables In the whole room. The menu has changed since we were last there but nevertheless an excellent meal, if slightly pricey.
We cerainly saw no signs of any downturn in business given that Tuesday nights are normally relatively quiet.

Last night there were 7 vans all parked in appropriate bays. This morning there are 7 vans all parked in appropriate bays. I put this down to the great weather and the parking restrictions and costs. You can park here all day anywhere for £2, or up to 2 hours for free.

You cracked it with the weather, Bill. A wee bit info, the pub at Pittenweem harbour does some good quality and value for money fayre, if you have not already stopped in for a meal, it is worth a visit.

Ourselves and others were unable to pay the £10 overnight parking charge last night. I did manage to pay the fee on Saturday morning, but not on Sunday. We did not have £10 in coins, and we were unable to make a card payment. Also you are asked to display your ticket in the windscreen, but what about those with external covers, also with the amount of condensation on the windscreens, you would not be able to read the ticket. When we woke up on Sunday morning our ticket had also curled up due to dampness. I will contact them.

We had a similar problem with the card machine. I spoke to the ranger and he explained that the machine has a random problem getting a signal. I tried several times to pay by card unsuccessfully whereas the next motorhomer to come along succeeded straight away! There is a donation box in the upper car park but I elected to make a donation via the trust website as well as commenting on the problems with the card machine (as requested by the ranger).
I also put a note in my windscreen stating that I had not been able to pay (who carries £10 cash with them in coin?) with the reg no of the ranger I had spoken to.
