Ruby Bay Elie issues.

Just had a long chat with Robbie Blythe.
Robbie has asked me not to mention certain aspects, and I will obviously oblige.
But what I can tell you is Fife are not in anyway put off by events at Elie, and at Kingsbarns. Even with the terrible behaviour, and one of his wardens being verbally abused by a moron.
Robbie accepts that the current model is flawed and he is ready to put forward ideas for what he termed “the next stage”. Robbie informed me that the Scottish government are keen to see an expansion towards the Fife model throughout Scotland.
I put forward that they should close Elie to motorhomes in the high season and only make it available in the winter months. Whilst Robbie referred to this as the nuclear option it’s not off the table. Robbie admitted he had not thought of the option of only having Elie available in the low season.
They are keen to expand facilities throughout Fife and Leven looks set to make more spaces and an elsan point available in the near future. His ambition is to provide 150 spaces by the end of the year.

I reckon (and this is only my opinion) that we are going to see changes in what Fife are doing, and that these changes will lead to a better model for us, for the Trust, and for the locals.

Robbie gave us some good news.

The Good News: We have a new location with 4 overnight bays (£10 a night) based in Glenrothes River Side carpark. It includes a Chemical Waste Point (entry fee £3). There is also an overnight toilet which has a urinal, toilet, and sink. This link takes you to the location but its from 2023.

Spain and France have entry by app and a barrier for some unattended Aires/Sites which belong to an organised scheme. You pre-book or turn up and if there's a space pay at the barrier with your membership card or you get one at the barrier. If it's full you don't get in.

I suggested they look at the Findhorn set up, I think pre booking could be introduced, it’s definitely on the horizon. What puts many off in summer is driving all the way to Elie only to find there are no spots available, and it has been turned into an encampment. Pre booking with a ANPR barrier mitigates these issues. But providing these facilities would probably increase prices. But Fife coastal trust will try to offer such facilities as cheaply as possible if introduced.

It does happen in some of the hotspots in France . Mind you they are usually free off season !

The obvious solution is pre booking with ANPR camera on a barrier. This works very well at the Cullen and Findhorn aires in Moray and ensures arrangements are sustainable and well managed whilst getting a good income
Cullen barrier broken earlier this week, but as you say it's a good idea.
