Hello, can someone help please, the rubber around our windows in our camper
seems to be sticking and making it difficult to wind open and when we do manage to get it open part of it is stuck to the window. We have had a very hot summer so maybe that caused it, but would be gratful for what to put on them to keep them more supple. someone said french chalk but would'nt that just wash off in the rain. Hope you can help.
Thank you.

Vaseline would do the job however when you open the window you
would probably see some smears:eek:

You could try and polish the edges of the windows and some talc powder
on the rubber:D

Like Trevor said: vaseline; or if you don't like the smear: talcum powder on the rubbers on the inside will help ( it will also help on a baby's bump :D)

or a thing called rubber lube available from commercial motor factors
we used to use it to help inserting the rubber bearings on hgv trailer springs

silicon spray

Try the above. It works! also I've read somewhere else that it is used on windows/seals on converible cars it seals where they connect. Yes it works!! because otherwise the joint is dry and doesn't touch, if you know what I mean.

Thank you all for your replys going to be quite busy for next few days now, thats if the rain ever stops, its coming down in stair rods here in the Alpes.

same here in the good ole uk thunderstorms and torrential rain

try this

Auto glym vinyl and rubber care, used this for a similar problem after a couple off coats did the job.

Years ago i had this problem, when trying to open my windows after they hadn't been opened for a couple of months. I nearly tore the rubber seal where they were stuck that fast.
Now i just open & close them all about once a month, i never have a problem with the rubber sticking now.

vaseline will rot rubber

Surprised me but you could be right  however from whot I read
silicon based rubber vaseline will rot it and natural it won't:confused:
who nows what rubber we have:(

PS by the way don't put vaseline on condoms unless u want kids:eek:
could not resist

I used silicone grease on mine and that did the trick

Window rubber

In our mh manual it says to rub talc powder on to rubbers 2 a year. Should help

try a drop of baby oil  for the window rubbers :D if not that pure olive oil

In diving we use water based lubricants on the rubber seals of our drysuits, oil based would breakdown the rubber, if you smear a little over the rubber it will remain lubricated for ages !! honest not a wind up !!

Happy camping Tom

Halfords rubber and nylon lubricant (comes in an aerosol can) does the job well. Use it once a year on all rubber sealings on windows and doors.
French supermarkets sell a similar product - almost half price that of the Halford's one.
