Just planning our next adventure and asking for a route suggestion.
Undecided between taking the French route down from Luxembourg area or to pop over to Germany and then down.
Have not been to either area so just looking for the best scenery, plan to avoid all toll roads.
Google maps shows two variations. Hopefully the image attached says it all.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

I have done the Luxembourg route and it is a good run but other may be more knowledgeable

It depends a lot on how long you're taking for the journey, if you want to stop off on route and what you're interested in. Never done the French route, but the German one has some very picturesque towns. If you like driving on beautiful roads, the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse that sweeps through the Black Forest is one of the best in Europe, and only a slight diversion off of Autoroute 5 going south as well. It's road 500 and starts at Baden Baden, just after Karlsruhe.

If you go that way, I'd also recommend making time to visit Winterthur, a gorgeous town with more beautiful mountain roads leading to it.
