Evening all! We're off to Spain for Christmas, leaving next Wednesday morning. The ferry departs at 00.50 in the morning and I am looking for a stop over, for the night.Don't mind driving an hour or so from Calais, aire or wild camp.
Then looking for best route through France to Barcelona,as we have to pick up family from airport on Christmas eve. That gives us about 3 days to get there.Don't mind taking senic route ( missing toll roads ) as not in a hurry, any recommendations for aires/ wild camp spots please.
On the way back we are traveling up the Adlantic coast as we need to visit the Charente region to check on our shack.

Thanks Stephen.:drive:

hi
i went to Perpignan, France not far from Bacelona in the summer in my MH And the route I used through France was Calais/Rouen/Orleans/Limoges/Toulouse/Perpignan
From memory took around 3 days and no tolls Unfortunately did not take records of aires we stayed en-route as we use our satnav for direction and when we felt like stopping we would have a look out for cammping car signs and usually found a cammpingcar aire to park up for the night We bought an aire book and only used it to locate nearest aire when it was getting late in the day
Have a good trip

Thank you for your replys  just finished insulating the van today, need to get it boarded out tomorrow :D , running out of time now, that route looks good to me ,regards Stephen.

Thanks *****! We'll try some of those ,regards Stephen.

Hi folks
Any chance of snow on this route as may be leaving early in the year

Hi What you need is a CHAP NAV
they have in built experience and personal knowkedge of the routes to all the nicest places in france and spain ,they also have a security aspect and act as a standby driver in case you need a nap on the move ,send me a pm and tell me when and where you are departing and i will be at the port waiting ,you cant miss me i will be in loud bermuda shorts and large sun hat ,i dont take up much room ,but i do eat quite a bit and i snore but bring my own earplugs .
have a wonderfull time and dont even think of us poor blighters left behind to mind the country while you swan off enjoying youselvs :have fun::cheers::shag: but not too much as it will rock the van and people will stare :)

Mos! If the vans a rockin, then don't come a knockin ! :lol-053:

Spain

You can cut out Narbonne by using the d118 to Perpignan, Its a scenic route from Quillan come off at Carcassonne then on to limoux, Aire at Quillan by the station,it now becomes the d117, then a Hour and a half to perpignan That's if you don't want the m/w will save mileage and tolls but not time, Have a safe trip, we are off to Morroco in January hoping it will stay snow free by the time we leave. jonse

Stephen,

As you never know where you are going to be enroute, it is a good idea to download the POI for the Aires in France, if you have a Sat Nav.

If you don't have the file PM me with the type of Sat Nav and I can supply.

Steve
