hi ***** its is true its a well known fault .hope you and cath are well

Hi Robert,

It is easily changed as a DIY job, in fact it is better to be done that way. If you buy the crossmember, you drill a better drain hole and give it a good protective coating. Then forget about it. Mine is on the way out and I will sort it myself when I am in the mood. Remember to support the weight of the radiator when removing it.

BTW *****, the crossmember is not structural and therefore not part of the MOT. Your garage probably pointed it out as a courtesy but I am surprised it was put on a MOT advisory slip.

Cross menber

Got one from EBay a couple of months ago for £60 , the only problem I had fitting it was un-doing the screws that hold a long clamp that retains the wiring harness that sits between the rad and the member, had to cut an inch hole in the under side then drill the screws out from the back, the other thing you may find is that the bolts that hold the belly plate on are usually a fine metric thread , on the new member they are courser and will not fit , check before you fit it and buy correct bolts if necessary

but I am surprised it was put on a MOT advisory slip.

We had an MOT advisory note last year that was a page long and had things like 'scuff damage to outside edge of passenger seat' and 'tear in plastic of storage compartment' as advisories on it! Think it was a new employee being a bit over-zealous.
